On our approach into Charleston, we did notice that there were no announcements at all from the flight deck except a short "please fasten your seat belts". We've flown enough to know this was unusual.
After landing, all was very quiet, but compared to Hartsfield-Jackson, most other airports are.
It was when we approached the TV in a lounge and saw the coverage that we realized the enormity of what had happened.
I won't bore us all with the story of our trip back to Atlanta in the rental car and all the other travelers in rental cars we met at rest stops along the way.
I will proudly say that my Navy daughter has recently returned from her first overseas deployment aboard a warship as her crew participated in a joint Naval anti-terrorism mission.
She certainly was affected by the September 11 attacks on our nation.

My first impression was a bit of shock, a bit of horror and a lot of disbelief. I remember thinking this couldn't happen in the U.S. and because I knew the magnitude of the Trade Towers in our financial world, I was scared that this was only the beginning of something much larger.
I am largely indifferent about the attacks today. I have not forgotten them nor the lives that were lost. However, I pass through airports, public buildings, etc. with little thought to how quickly such an event could happen again.
My opinion changes on a day to day basis as I was news programs, find out more about our government, listen to reports, etc. I am just not sure.
