Hammer Head Lumber and Building Supplies has closed. A sign posted on the door announces that the store, located on Highway 19 just south of Zebulon, has ceased business. "Thank you for your support for the past 10 years. It has been a pleasure to serve you and the community," the sign reads. A vacant parking lot fronts the strip mall housing Hammer Head. The strip mall is nearly vacant. Crumb Crazy, a bakery at the other end of the strip mall, is closing Friday, July 31.

Problem #2: Cookie shops should be located where shoppers could walk in on a whim and buy something, not in a place where you would have to drive for miles to indulge.
Problem #3: Maybe the Chamber of Commerce should be more interested in working with small business owners, helping them develop workable business plans that would be less likely to fail, than promoting gas lines for large businesses that will probably re-locate when tax incentives are greater somewhere else.
That would also save a great deal of money. If you had to sleep outside under a ten without air conditioning, swat flies, gnats, and mosquitoes, no carry out food, no TV, cook your own meals, and clean it up, it MIGHT be a deterrent to crime in Pike County, or a least to repeat offenders.
I don't suppose you would have many people applying for the jail attendant position, as it would not be a comfortable job for them, unless they love working in the great outdoors.
15,000 people in Pike County. 17,240 people in Lamar County.
Yes small business. Move to Milner or Barnesville? Can you make car cake and more? Like on TV? Ace of Cakes? Cake Boss?
It has been rumored for years that there is a mall of some sorts planned for I-75 and Johnstonville Rd, which is just outside Lamar County in Monroe County. This would be the closest Lamar County would ever get to having a mall of any sort.
It has also been rumored that a super Wal-Mart or mall of sorts is planned for I-75 and Hwy 16 (Exit 205). Once again, a few miles outside Lamar. From a feasibility standpoint, I could see that happening. The DOT has just redone that whole exit, so something may be afoot.
It all boils down to, you get what you pay for. And I've yet to hear of anyone complain about not getting what they paid for in my wife's cakes.
If this sounds prejudicial, so be it. Once you've had the best, you don't care about the rest!
