Teen Challenge becomes a major hot topic
In light of the upcoming meeting/hearing on Teen Challenge, I thought I would share some of the letters that have been coming our way.

I have not heard or read that anyone is denying that many children need help kicking various addictions. It is all about LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION! These people who live in this area deserve to have a fear-free life, at least with no added fear for their safety and lifestyle. If these children are as lovely as this letter implies, they do not need help. If the parents can afford to pay from $22,500 to $36,750 for 15 months participating in Teen Challenge, they can afford a Nanny and a tutor. Heck, they might even throw in a little of their own time with their kids. Better yet, try this, "Son, if you will be a good boy for 15 months, do good in school and go to church, I will give you $36,750?" If my Mother had made that offer to me, I would be known as Sister Sheila today. This may sound harsh, I really do not mean it in that way. I just hate it when these groups act like they have the patent on Jesus and try to sell his influence. Here is a newsflash for you, JESUS CHRIST IS FREE FOR THE ASKING. He does not want your money. Tell the truth folks, if these "troubled children" are not mandates from a court, take one home with you for 15 months. Don't charge their parents either. Jesus wants you to do it.

In this society today you can never be to careful. I think that helping these boys is a great idea, however if you are planning on putting them around people then there needs to be more security, maybe a high fence with the rolled wire at the top. Just for insurance, no child starts out being an addict, abuser, thief but it does happen. I am not saying these boys might escape an harm someone, but what if one of them did? The next thing you will hear is "Well, he was a good boy, I just can't imagine him doing something like this" good boys and good people go bad when you least expect. And to put residents of Pike near that type of possibility means that we make concessions, make the residents feel safe with the fence and the "good boys" feel confined to their environment. After all they wouldn't be there if it wasn't a challenge to keep them in line.
