Just two days before the National Day of Prayer May 2, commissioners approved - in a split 3-2 vote - opening each future county board meeting with prayer. Several citizens spoke before the meeting during the open forum segment in support and in opposition to the idea of prayer during the meeting.
What is the matter with you people? To pray or not to pray should never come into question for any public and/or elected meeting in The United States. As far as quoting Bible verses in your defense, Tamra...get real girl.
Mark 8:38 - Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of his Father with the holy angels.
Chairman Johnson.....let us see how silent votes work at elections. I am so ashamed that this subject was even mentioned in my Pike County. We prayed every day in school until the famous Atheist had enough power to have it removed.
Johnson and Jarrett, you two go into your closet and do whatever you wish.....the rest of you, pray loud and proud. Jesus ain't going in that closet with you two...I am confident of that!
Wasn't Jesus teaching prayer should be organic, natural, sincere, from the heart and private? That is how I perceived Tamra's position.
Matthew 6: 5-8, When you pray, show no one. Prayer is between you and your Father. Do not use vain repetition. Do not ask for earthly things; your Father knows what things you need to carry out the things he wants you to do.
Personally, I'd rather EVERYONE who attends the meetings prepare in private to be open to what God can and will do and don't assert our own egotistical agendas. It'll show!
WOW! I hate it that all the children of the old days are going to Hell for praying before class started. And people who say "Grace" at the table instead of the closet. And ballgames who still say prayers. And out loud in church. I never seen a church with a prayer closet. I shall go into my closet now and pray for Tommy, James, Carol and citizen Margie Tramell. They may be in danger when attending future meetings since they are not ashamed of Jesus. With all the Christians I have heard praying in my life....Hell is going to be full of good Christian people.
2 Timothy 3:1-5
But understand this, that in the last days there will come times of difficulty. For people will be lovers of self, lovers of money, proud, arrogant, abusive, disobedient to their parents, ungrateful, unholy, heartless, unappeasable, slanderous, without self-control, brutal, not loving good, treacherous, reckless, swollen with conceit, lovers of pleasure rather than lovers of God, having the appearance of godliness, but denying its power. Avoid such people.
