Students respond to teacher editorial

Kim Johnson teaches seventh grade English language arts and reading at Pike County Middle School. Her students read the Journal Reporter’s opinion article “English Teachers Need Appreciation” in class. They responded by agreeing or disagreeing with the author’s position.

New Common Core standards challenges students to read across the curriculum and find a variety of real-world issues that give opportunities for personal response, reflection and debate. Johnson thanked the Journal Reporter for publishing the opinion article which her seventh graders discussed.
