OSHA investigates courthouse

After Pike County employees working in the courthouse aired concerns about dust, noise and debris in their working spaces, inspectors from Occupational Health and Safety Administration visited the courthouse Aug. 29. According to county manager Mike Phillips attempts were made to resolve issues raised by courthouse employees and no violations were filed against Pike.

I had business at the courthouse yesterday, was there for no more than ten minutes. Workers were all over the place - had to squeeze past three to get by (awkward), equipment blocking the office I had business in and in the lobby. I could feel the chalky residue all over me. Hours later after 2 bottles of water my throat was still dry and scratchy. Power tools and hammers blaring away. Nobody should have to try and conduct normal business in those conditions. The tax commissioner and super court clerks offices can't even shut themselves off from the majority of it like some other offices can. It would help if the construction went on opposite courthouse business hours....for the health and safety of visitors and employees.

Good call Dana. The majority of Georgia State Government offices undergoing construction, renovations and painting were conducted after hours, holidays and weekends. When the employees and public returned to do business the offices were clean, noise free and safe. Look to see computers, phones and sensitive equipment faults in the near future. This was a bad risk management decision to subject employees, general public and county office equipment to a construction environment. The authority having jurisdiction dropped the ball on this one.

When I went to Pike County High...........there were way too many rooms.

You put a sign on the door of the courthouse TELLING people where to find them. Why is this hard to do?

Mr. Concord Resident, if you like to be entertained just check out the Polldaddy.com question on your right. 22 votes tell us it is OK for board members to be non-current on property taxes. Sounds like fiction entertainment but probably a true account of Lame Ducks and poorly educated "meeting goers."

BOC, it is time to stop down dumming our county boards. When a applicant submits his/her paperwork and signs it with an X it should be viewed with a red flag.
