Courthouse plans changed again

County commissioners revisited courthouse plans at the Tuesday, April 24, meeting after voting 3-2 to purchase new HVAC units and save $77,000 with a composite roof instead of metal roofing at the April 11 meeting. They voted to go with the original plan for a metal roof and discussed keeping the courtroom balcony.

Tommy Powers ask his minister and a convenience store owner, held hands with Collins, changed his vote on the roof. Next he will ask those three to up his insurance benefits. Go Tommy.

Ocollins,Omangham and Opowers did you enjoy youe educational trip to Savannah? Learn anything about courthouse renovations? I keep looking for a photo of our commissioners sitting in a hot tub, two wine glasses and gold chains. Where's the GSA planners when Pike Taxpayers need them?

Is there no qualified roofer in Pike County that can accomplish this job? Pike County continues to hire outside contractors while local contractors struggle to make ends meet and paying their property taxes.

The best wine George and I ever shared was from sour grapes. They sweeten in the bottle. We even ate the cork. He is the only man to ever buy me wine that did not have a month as an expiration date. Remember that night, George?

There is a new concept. A cork roof for the courthouse.

I was not speaking of the planning board member that fell off a roof and broke both ankles. He was not even a liscensed contractor, thank goodness for homeowners insurance.

It was not the guy on the planning board. That is for sure, too long of a drop, ankles would have been up around his ears.

That would have been my great grand daddy. I rode in the back of the wagon with the shingles and 5 chain gang workers. Took a long time but grand daddy Rip Cuff knew his business. He did the entire roof for $62.50.

Someone with the sharp mind of a planning board member would plan ahead for protection. He should tie himself off with a rope in case he falls again. Bet his health insurance is cancelled.

there is a spooky old wives tale that suggests if the eyes of a dead person are left open, he or she will find someone to take with them. the closing of the deceased eyes started with this old wives tale, and so, through the decades we have continued to close the eyes of the deceased. we even go so far as to close the eyes of the bodies that we prepare for viewings or wakes. of course, this is a peaceful look, and one that is far more attractive than seeing the actual eyes, but it is all rooted in this old wives tale. luckily, there is no evidence to suggest that if the eyes of the deceased are not closed that they will actually take someone with them. In fact, it’s not really logical at all since none of us are really in control of when we die or when those around us die. of course, many consider closing the eyes of the deceased simply something you do out of respect. and, for those that want to be viewed after death, it’s simply a more attractive look!

i spoke to several dead folks with a sense of humor. they said their eyes were closed when they started winking at people who hated them in life but came to their funeral to ease their guilt.

Under table pages fly out the door, find yourself at war, the bids not include hot tubs that spool. You ask yourself who's in the tub but it's not in the old court house but in some politicians basement. Private reasons will unfold for the truth shall be told. You feel to moan but unlike before you discover the cheap trick of others bite of the bid. Someone has really found you.

Dr. Opp's you would have lost that bet. He is the county democrat and comes under the Obama Health Plan, Obama Cell Phone Plan, Obama Food Stamp Plan and the recent Obama Radiator Plan.

All Pike Citizens should be proud. We now have a communicator appointed with a background in landscaping. He takes pictures everyday and reports proposals and any pay requests. We are #1. No other county in Georgia can match us. We will have chandeliers that have bulbs that won't have to be changed in our lifetime. Is that a code requirement on new construction for a historical building?
We are number ONE.

Who made the decision to appoint a communicator? Marro's hiring abilities live with us to this day. Is a landscaper qualified to inspect steel structural construction? Bet the landscaping around the court house will be pretty.

Is the appointed Communicator certified? Has he passed all the State and National Communicator Certifications? This position was not advertised. What is the salary for such a unique position. No other county in the State of Georgia has a Certified Communicator on their staff.

Much studies and research were involved but I now understand a Communicator position, found it on the internet.

Only in Pike County has a fulltime Communicator.
