West Central Pre Release Center warden Edd Sanders addressed county leaders and commissioners at the annual retreat about the facility’s upcoming mission change. He said the facility will continue to house women only but it will become a Correctional Recovery Academy, offering comprehensive, court-ordered substance abuse programs for them.
I am confused. So it cost taxpayers $1309 per month in the jail system for this lady and will cost taxpayers $1500 per month in the new system? Where are the cost savings?
Actually, this plan has decreased the cost by cutting the sentence by 20 months, right?
If this short time will eliminate drugs for the rest of a person's life.... I am all for it. BUT I truly do not believe it will cause that major change. What happens if they revert back to old habits? Do they go to jail or back to the $1500 per month rehab?
I don't think I made clear the point the warden was making: If she had been sentenced to the 6-month substance abuse program, she would not have served the 5 year term, saving a lot of money and perhaps having a better outcome when she goes home again.

According to the U.S. Census, the government estimates we now have eleven million illegal aliens in the United States, in 2008. Of these, 6,640,000 are from Mexico alone. The true number may be much higher because many did not report in the census. The average amount each state spends to provide welfare, medical, food stamps and education alone is between eleven to twenty two billion dollars a year. This does not include the amount paid from the Social Security and Medicare fund to immigrants who have never worked a day in the U.S.!
We do get the benefit of quick and cheap Vidalia onions as a result of the illegals - and don't forget, somebody has to get those watermelons from the ground to the truck - so we do get some indirect benefits...
