County commissioners voted 4-1 to approve a $2.67 million bid for the courthouse addition and renovations Wednesday, Jan. 11.

Relax, folks. That's only $151 for each man, woman and child who lives in Pike County.

So you two parent families with three kids, your meager share is just $755- not including interest or overages, but government projects NEVER go over budgets, right? Yeah, sure.

Fasten your seatbelts folks, there's a big tax increase a-comin', and it ain't gonna' be just a sales tax. On the bright side, you're gonna' have one fine courthouse to visit.

Why can't they just continue using the school and just update the courthouse cosmetically for the sake of history? That is a big, old empty school with plenty of room for document storage, etc.

To the one with the guts to stand their ground....(whoever you are) Congratulations!!!!!

Now, Sheila. You know that we love you- even though some of us won't admit it. But you can't go besmirchin' the family name of our compadre, FBT. The Pike County Basstards are fine folks- our first family- and we need to protect them.

It was my Commissioner Carol Bass. She has done what she promised on taxpayer dollars. Commissioner Bass is a smart lady and has explained in detail what the final project costs will be. Restoration is not just painting a smiley face on the side of the court house along with the names of the so called committee. The handyman giving out advice is no building contractor which brings up another issue. All board seats should be filled by citizens with educational backgrounds and credentials to back them up. In my opinion a roofer or painter is not qualified to judge restoration or construction bids. Georgia Law even now requires carpenters to be certified.

What else is in Zebulon ? The Court House is all we have in town that is still beautifull, or do you want Zebulon to look and be like A Griffin stip mall or a Walmart- cheap metal buildings, low end housing ,we should be proud and happy to make the center of town better in all ways possible. I know this will fall on deaf ears, but the court house is our property (the people of Pike county) We must make it something to be proud of to pass on to the future.

Your Ms.Bass is the one that pushed the erronous figures on combining the ordinary and probte jusge that has cost the county in legal fees and back wages. Carry On.

You betcha....our criminals deserve only the BEST in Pike. In fact, since this problem of alleged murderers, judges, jurors...having to use the same bathroom, therefore passing one another in the hall, was exposed.

I say, "Every person who has ever been tried in The Zebulon Courthouse deserves a new trial."

When I was trying to get the response about the quantity of deputy cars, do you know what one commissioner replied to me....."I must ask the County Manager before I reply."

Have you ever wondered why "three out of four" dentists recommend various dental products on commercials? Because they just cannot force that ONE HONEST one to accept the commercial pay offs.

SPLOST is not the answer to all our problems. Maybe in large cities with travel, big business, hotels and airports it helps. Not in Pike. We are taxed and pay the SPLOST and always come up short.

I agree Patricia...don't do it at all. Carol Bass is right to vote no. The Pike County High School is a perfect building to house the entire list of offices and functions of the court house.

Clean the courthouse up, make it like it was in the beginning in the 1800's. Snatch out that ridiculous wiring, make it a tour sight, and leave the court house duties in the high school.

They have the big class rooms of Mrs. Yearwood, Mrs. Means, Mrs. Peek, Mrs. Dugger,
Mr. Paulk, Mrs. Whitehurst, Mrs. Hammond, Mrs. Anderson, Mrs. Barrett's library ( I know who stole her little bell),etc.

Stick a steeple on it and it will be tax free...the people of my Mother's generation paid for it anyway.
