We as a nation have slowly become a group of non-verbal communicators. We send e-mails, text on our phones, facebook, fax,and use twitter.
When I was growing up in the 60s and 70s we had just a few ways to communicate. We had the U.S. mail service, telephone, and Western Union telegraph service.

The kids sit or stand all together and don't even talk. They text to each other. Strange. They don't even know that real talking is better.
I have heard teachers say that cell phones are allowed in schools, but can not be used in class. DUH! Then they get mad when the kids talk, text and yes even CHEAT using their phone! I asked one teacher why are they even allowed? She said 'oh, that was the superintendents decision'. Good grief.
My teenager doesn't have a phone or do any of that stuff. She is not in public school, so she doesn't have the pressure to have this, thank goodness.
And the parents just dole them out, and then complain of having no money. When we were growing up, in the 70's, we did just fine without them.
Yea I know, what if something happens, what if they get hurt? Well they shouldn't be allowed to be in those situations and places that this could happen in the first place.
You are so right about this new technology is tearing families apart, and then they wonder what is wrong with their family? I'm so glad I don't have this problem.
We do have computer and internet as I homeschool my children using this. I know I don't HAVE to, but this is one area where the computer is a life saver for us.
We have it on a desk, we do not move it and take it around everywhere like it's a tiny puppy in a purse.
We also need it for business purposes, that's just how it is now. I don't even like that.
We don't have any other technology such as ipod, kindle, or whatever all that stuff is.
That is so sad to me.
