We just can't seem to get away from the University of Buford. As long as they have open enrollment, very few schools will be able to compete with them. Recruiting will still be allowed for open enrollment schools and Private Schools.
Lots of students attending Pike Schools do not live in Pike County...

Best Pitcher from Upson Lee?

The Pirates Number two or number three pitcher was from Upson Lee but that is because of personal reasons that had nothing to do with baseball it just got Pike another good pitcher which helped Pike. But Cody was easily the Ace of the staff last season.

Pirate Man the Football Feeder system has to be better

It all starts with the local recreation department and then the middle school and then you build a succesful program. Yes Some of those schools can potentially recruit some better players but you can only play so many on the field at a time. And then isnt the Pike County Football Coach supposed to be the Former Miami Hurricanes Strength and Conditioning coach from when they won some National Titles. So develop some endurance in the kids and they can overcome any obstacles.
A few off season injuries and some younger players coming up nobody knows who is going to be the ace. Of course you would hope it would be the senior lefty but until the season gets rolling and kids are 100 percent healthy nobody knows. But it also remains to be see if some of the great younger talent can mature quickly.
This baseball season is going to be potentially a tough one, with all the losses from graduation.
Any new recruits or "move in" on this years squad. When kids or their families want to come to Pike (even at an early age) because of wanting what they think is better its ok. When they want the same at schools like say Buford or Blessed Trinity its an excuse!

Look around at the surrounding counties

Who wouldnt want their kids to come to Pike County instead of the surrounding cesspools of other counties options.
Tons of 9th grade talent coming into baseball program. Best talent to come down the pipe in years. At least 6 freshman should play varsity baseball this year. Coach Hanson is a great coach and he will make the right choices.
I assure you Sid that I don't care how good the 9th grade players are, they will not be playing varsity. I am not discrediting the boy's talent I bet they are really good. I know Coach Hanson and he like many others has an agenda. Just because they made the 9th grade team in 8th grade does not grant them a spot on the team this year. As a matter of a fact do not be surprised that there will be some that are cut that have made the team before and don't be surprised to see a couple of guys make it that don't try out. Usually they don't try out because of other sport commitments, but in my opinion to make the team you need to try out. And on another note, they all need to be drug tested.
Oh look, someone called us rednecks and racists. You hurt my feelings, NOT!! Neither of those words has any affect. Only children, like you, who have never grown up and still dwell on childish things would use those words. You know, like Barack Obama.

Coach Hanson Might have to cut a few seniors

Coach Hanson might have to cut a few players if their only job is going to be pinch running and allow some other of the younger players fill the slots who have more baseball running smarts if you know what I am saying?
You think to key to developing 9th grade talent is to cut seniors to let freshmen run the bases? Why would that make sense when you're trying to get them as many ABs as possible to help them to develop into varsity ready sophomores? Having them sit the bench behind juniors and seniors and pinch-run due to their baseball "smarts" is obviously not a good idea to anyone who knows the game.
If that comes true, Pike athletics will be screwed for a long time (except baseball).

I don't know Coach Hanson, but I'm certain he doesn't need advice from a blog to run his team. His team went to the state finals on coaching, hardwork, and talent (probably in that order). The blog didn't get him there.
Sounds like you're one of those parents that thinks their kid should have everything handed to them.
They must have an upcoming 9th grader that they think is prepared for the majors. Exactly why some of our players are not all that good, their parents tell them they are when they aren't. Highschool is a new age and you will learn quick that you have to earn your spot and respect. Don't be surprised if your 9th grader gets no recognition.....that is the way of the world.
I agree with the first poster. No doubt these younger kids will get their at bats in on the JV Team and I guess you did not see some of the best running blunders last season by a few of the kids who only pinch ran. One kid did a good job and a couple others lack a lot of baseball knowledge on the basepaths. Their first priority will be of course to get their abats in at JV games but when they can they need to be sitting and learning and being used when they can on the Varsity. These ninth and ten graders probably could and should be able to beat the upper classmen if they played each other.
Let's...remember!!! Girls softball....I think they finish strong! Glad to see some competition during the regular season next year...and once again pike is still known for the girls sports....compare softball..soccer...to baseball and football...first thing people tell me from all over GA...pike co ....y'all have a great softball team!
Can you tell me where to find the list of acceptable bloggers? I called the tax office to be sure that If The Shoe Fits pay taxes in Pike...they have no listing for you.
Coach Don Hanson is one of the best coach's of selecting talent and leading a team. He does not need a bunch of wing eating, beer drinking folks to tell him how to select or run his team! Go to work! Do something for our struggling world.
i think you are wrong. the juniors and seniors have much more talent than the freshmen and sophomores. the juniors and seniors have more experience and know more about baseball than the younger boys.
I believe that with the proper support from the administration, community, and parents; with a few more good coaches that want to mould winners instead of"nice guys" our athletics could compete with anyone.
PiCoHi to play in region with Henry County, Jackson, Central Macon, Southwest Macon, PEACH COUNTY and CARVER-COLMBUS.
Tsk, tsk, tsk, the poor Pirate footballers.

RE Lee used to get players from Pike. No Thomaston person has the right to gripe about us getting a move in from there. It's about time we got a few ballplayers move in. Our enrollment goes up several students every year and most of the time no ballplayers move in. Also, Coach Hanson IMO will keep a 9th grader on varsity if he's going to start, like Adams and Edwards. If not, he's better off on JV because of playing time and the level of competition in our JV league with Ola, Luella and Union Grove. Unlike other schools around us, we don't play a joke of a JV schedule.
