The Pike County Pirates were shutout 19-0 by the Lamar County Trojans Friday night in The Battle of Potato Creek, a key region matchup. Realtime scoring from the game was provided by Walter Geiger, Greg Parrot and Rachel McDaniel.

A standing room only crowd saw Pike kept off the scoreboard for the first time in 85 games by a stout Trojan defense.

I listened to the Pike/Lamar game on the internet at fun101fm.com and I must say that I was appalled at some of the comments made by the announcers after the Trojans took the game over. They were obviously and understandably for Pike and at first were very complimentary of Lamar's team. Then they began whining about no calls on Lamar for what they described as unecessary rough play. After the Trojans iced the game with a fourth quarter touchdown one of the announcers said if he were Pike's coach he would get his players together and tell them to bring the pain. Maybe I'm wrong but I took this as a threat to go our and hurt someone. Then as the game was winding down and Lamar County started celebrating the win this same announcer said "the natives are restless in Barnesville I see". In this world of political correctness, I took this as a racial slur. There is no place for these types of comments made on a public broadcast of any kind let alone a high school football game. I can understand being upset because your team is getting their lunch handed to them but to publicly ask for kids to get hurt and then to call out a community with a racial slur is just wrong and this man should be made to make a public apology and dismissed from any further radio broadcasts. I ask the people of Pike County, do you condone this man's attitude as a representation of your school and community? I should hope not.

Thanks for posting this! I was actually one of those Lamar County fans having to stand on the sideline last night. It was an awesome game and the Lamar County side was PACKED! We have always had an awesome show of support for our team even in the days when we were not on top!!! I am in agreement with you on this announcer and his comments...... We need an apology, sir !!!

I agree with #3 LC listner. I listened to the game via internet also and thought the announcers were very unprofessional. They whined about no calls from the refs, congradulated a player of theirs who jumped offsides with "at least he got in a good shot" then followed it up with whining about Lamar hitting their quarterback during a live play. I am white and I would not make some of the comments they made, especially on the air where everyone can hear how unprofessional they are. I think they should appoligize, have to attend some kind of sensitivity training or be replaced.

Don't get it twisted our band has uniforms we just didn't want to mess them up on that cow pasture anyways I know yall saw them wear them in the Buggy Days Parade it be more Pike folks over here than Lamar, and let's not go there with the uniforms Pikes colorguard had on purple spandex really? Buy them some uniforms and how about trying to match the school colors that was just awful!!!!

And you fine folks from Pike helped pay for it because we all know you have to come over here to shop because you just can't get everything you need from yard sales and flea markets. Yes Lamer spanked our tails Friday and they are so excited they are beside themselves. One thing you gotta remember Pike Co. Students are educated and will be productive citizens for the future of this great nation. Lamar Co. Students will be a burdon on society become wards of the penal system and child walfare services. They hope that Obama will continue to support their uneducated ways.

In conculsion Lamar enjoy and savor you victory you earned it. It will be your only up lifting moment in life because you have nothing else going for you all.

We can't be great at all sports, but our test scores put yours to shame.

Wrong again the Trojans are as great as we think they are and as far as the second round of playoffs,the Pirates will only dream of making it to the playoffs and last but not least test scores, we knew this one was coming all because Pike lost the game but here goes, y'all are probably cheating like the Atlanta school system did, because y'all cheat in everything else just hasn't got caught yet. Because any school system that allows their students to talk/text on cellphones during class cannot be that outstanding really what are they learning if I had a chance to talk on my cell I would take it NO DISCIPLINE!!!!

If you had been there you would have known why the announcers had made the comments they did. The refs were missing face-mask penalties left and right and just a small part of what the refs wer missing. The trojans were playing dirty and going for the kneecaps of the pirates' players. They were trying to do some serious physical damage to our players. Next time you want to make a comment about a game or the announcers make sure you have been at the game before you dish out your opinions.

Take a look and see how many of the teachers in Pike's school system graduated from Lamar County High School. Hmmmmm I can't think of a soul from Pike teaching at Lamar. Just goes to show you how we school you again.

we have a lot of teachers who live in lamar who teach in pike. that's because they don't want their children going to school in lamar. they teach in pike so their kids can attend school in pike.

Hmmmmmmm let's see. Lamar doesn't have to run off coaches, administrators, teachers, etc. for improprieties like Pike has in the recent past. There is definitely something wrong with the well water over there. Like another poster said, I'd be willing to bet that Pike fudges its test scores every year to make AYP. I'll take my LCCHS diploma which, by the way, led to a college education, our 21-7 overall record against Pike in football and Friday's 19-0 win anyday over anything Pike has to offer.

I am a Pirate fan, but have to agree on the band uniforms. I thought last years dance line uniforms were bad enough, but this year is worse. The uniforms should be school colors. The band sounds good, but the girls colors just ruins the whole show.

Congratulations Lamar Co. on an honest win. It was good to see the visitor's section full for the first time this year. The band put on a good show, although it would have been even more enjoyable had they chosen to wear their uniforms. It is always pleasant to see a good show band perform. Thank you for coming. I didnt have to be at the game to hear what these announcers said about having the Pike players intentionally try to hurt the Lamar players or the racial comment about the natives being restless. I played enough football in my day to know what goes on during the game that is never called. I never said the Trojans weren't guilty of whatever these guys were whining about but I've had a few of our kids tell me about getting punched in the privates by the Pike players in piles so it goes both ways. It's sometimes easier to see things from the stands than it is from the field so until you've refereed or played in a football game learn a new trick, it's called shut the hell up!

Enjoy the win Trojans, football at both our schools, and our overall region, is weak at best. I don't care how much money you spend to cover it up 2nd round of playoffs is the best either of us could wish for. Nothing wrong with that, it is what is, and the highlight of both our year, sadly to say, is winning the "battle of Potato Creek" It's good entertainment and takes up our Fall, while we wait for what really matters, BASEBALL SEASON! The State Runner-up Pirates, will sweep you again and actually have a chance to play deep into the playoffs. Can you say that about any of your teams? Maybe if you spend a million on your baseball field it will help. Us over here in Pike will enjoy our community, our average facillities, and oh yes, our successful baseball program! It's great to be a Pirate!!!

And actually our basketball team went to the Elite 8 and was ranked #8 in the state and won the region i bet pike cant say that yeah they was runner up in baseball but second place is the 1st loser
