By Dwain W. Penn
The financial sword of Damocles fell upon the Concord water department at the Aug. 11 meeting of council. City maintenance superintendent Doug Neath said the city was fined by the Environmental Protection Department July 15 for violation of the minimum dissolved oxygen content for the south water treatment pond. The city has 30 days to submit a corrective action plan which eventually will cost over $100,000.
An aerator pushes away duck-weed at Zebulon’s water treatment pond off Highway 18. By next July, Concord must install an aerator at a cost of $20,000.

pay the epa, pay the lawyer suing the boc, pay pay pay. if pike doesn't put educated people where they need to be, all we are going to do is pay. and come tax time all the idiots that support these incompetent folks will start whining about their taxes being raised. the ignorance of pike never ceases to amaze me. but not everyone is sad. some find the ignorance of pike quite lucrative. $20,000 for an aerator? i just put one in a pond for $1300 my cost. wish it was for the city of concord. i could have charged $18,700 in labor.

A large aerator for this type of application runs about 4 grand. Additonal parts to install 5 hundred at the most. They are paying over 15 grand in labor to put an aerator in a pond???? I would be happy to do the complete job (parts & labor) for 6 grand. I could not afford to kick back any money at that rate but can offer council members a free lunch at the Concord Cafe.

The only person that gets a free lunch there is the famous biscuit patriot blog webmaster and that is only on Thursdays.
