Accused killer Jamie Weis accepted a blind plea Friday afternoon in open court. He was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole by Judge Tommy Hankinson.

I had to google "blind plea" since I had no idea what it meant.

"A blind plea is a guilty plea made by a criminal defendant when they have not entered a plea agreement and do not know the punishment the judge will impose. In a blind plea, the defendant is throwing himself at the mercy of the court. A blind plea does not guarantee leniency from the judge. A blind plea abandons all defenses, including a conviction on a lesser offense that carries a less severe penalty."

So if this is what it's come down to, why was so much taxpayer money wasted on this guy through the years?

And why do the victims in these crimes lose their "voice"? This to me is inexcuseable.

You are absolutely right, cats. I hope blind pleas cannot be appealed and he is put to death by tomorrow night. He has wasted so much time and money from the taxpayers it is ridiculous. The Bible says "there is a time to die."

What about the voice of Catherine King and her loved ones?

Weis is totally disgusting. If he wants sympathy, he needs to look between s**t and syphilis in the dictionary as far as I am concerned.

James Weis decided Catherine King should die in Febuarary of 2006. Tolley decided Weis should die now. Now that Tolley got me thinking, I am going to start making my own list of people who I feel it time to die.

I did not say it is time for him to die...I said it is PASSED time for him to die. When you get your list ready, let's get together. Your list will probably have some duplicates when compared to mine. There is no need to waste time and resources. We can possibly even combine our efforts and save gasoline if two dirt bags are located in the same general direction.

My guess is that you will reject the sentence because you want "a wittle more attention." After all, you cannot have that Satanic photo of yourself in the paper for another 5.5 years if you just go quietly to prison.

I love how this whole Republican county loves to convict people before the trial.Loves to gripe about a President that hasn't really done anything at all; I don't mean good or bad, I mean I don't think he has really accomplished anything.
They will let their Fire Chief go over a few dollars but yet let a sheriff's budget explode over 800 percent in a 8 year period but keep jail that probably violates every law there is about sanitary and humane conditions.(Nope Ive never been locked up only hear stories).

there is no justice in this country anymore. even death row inmates live for 10-15 years on average before finally being put to death. we need to go back to hangings on the courthouse square the moment the verdict is returned for stealing on up.

I have never heard of a Judge giving a convicted murdered, 24 hrs to decide his own fate. ?????? Come on Judge grow a pair, and order the Death penality like he deserved. I am really too busy to answer you, but as an Angel of Jesus, I feel it is a necessity. It all started when I was visiting my Grandchildren in Slidell, Louisiana, during hurricane Katrina.

I was home alone at the time. I was out back sipping on some Mad dog 20/20 and eating crawdads when I noticed it was raining. I finally finished the whole pot of dads as I chased them with my gallon of 20/20. Evidently, I took a little nap out of necessity, as I do not remember planning on going to sleep. I was awakened a few days later with fish nibbling at my toes. I asked myself, 'Self, where is your boat and who brought you to the ocean?" Then I noticed it was raining cats and dogs. I picked me out a pretty little Jack Russell and two cats. I named my dog Timey 'cause it was timey that we get back to dry groundy. I named my cats Miss Alma and Ozalean (my Mother and Aunt's name) 'cause if Jesus was busy I knew I needed to speak to someone in Heaven who could get his attention for me.

I grabbed hold of a tree there in the ocean, it was an Oceanic Salty Palm, and started praying. I have always trusted Jesus to bring me through my problems. A boat came by and invited me aboard. I politely refused and told them that my Jesus would save me. The water continued to rise, a bigger boat came to help, I motioned them to go on their way, as well. Finally, I found it necessary to climb atop The National Debt to be above the water level. A helicopter came into sight and bellowed for me to grab the rope, but again I refused the assistance. I was waiting on Jesus.

That is the last thing I remember on Earth. Then I found myself at The Pearly Gates. I saw Jesus. I had to ask him the question. "Jesus, why did you leave me to drown?"

Jesus replied, "I didn't leave you. I sent you two boats and a helicopter."

Then I understood the meaning of life. Jesus gives us all that we need to make the proper decisions in life. We have an Instruction Manual that a bunch of guys wrote many years ago. I use it as a basis for my decisions. BUT, I now realize that, just as times changed drastically from The Old Testaments to The New Testaments, times are changing today.

So, I am perfectly happy being Jesus' little helicopter. When I am on break, flying really high, doing flips and rolls, I still do not drink and fly. I climb a little higher and park on The National Debt and have a sip of wine. I am so relaxed as I rest comfortably on The National debt, for I feel assured that it will only continue to grow bigger and bigger.

I was being stripped searched after being arrested for a crime I didn't commit. While I was squating the two officers started giggling. I got pissed and turned around and saw the joy and excitement on their faces the one just laughed and said "You don't think we do this job for the money do you?" as he snapped on a rubber glove.

It was a plea deal offered by the prosecution.
If you think being in prison is a piece of cake you been watching too much lock up.
Georgia has the 2nd worst prisons in the country.
Justice in Georgia the last 15 years has been all about making money.
Georgia has a prison population of about 55,000 prisoners with a population of 9.5 million.
New York has 63,000 prisoners with a population of 19 million.
As with Jamie Weis and waiting 6 years to prosecute him was entirely due to not having the money to do so and the hopes the he would plea bargain.
There is no money in prisons today, This is why you will continue to hear about alternative sentencing and early release. Tough on crime sounds good but someone has to pay for it.
Would the great tax payers of Pike county be willing to pay for a new Jail and a kitchen that is up to code???? I dought it lol

Hell no, we will not pay for a new jail and kitchen. We will trade King Weis a bullet for the money he has cost the taxpayers. It was not about needing the money to prosecute the jerk. He fired his own team. He wanted to piddle away time hoping that the Supreme Court would rule in his favor and release him.

Why should jail be a piece of cake? YOU buy his cake. While you are in a loving mood, pay the taxes of those people who are losing their homes to public auctions because they can no longer afford to pay their taxes to feed murderers and paying public defenders on their behalf.

We want to be number ONE on that "worst jails list."

I will bake King Weis a cake, but only if you will make him eat his slice.

Tell me why you think we should have better jails? Do you realize that Catherine King's family pay taxes which go into the Great Tax Pot of Pike to aid in King Weis' defense. How sick is that, Billy?

We out source all our jobs in America. I truly think we should out-source our prisoners who committed murder, molested children, raped another person or voted Democrat in 2008.

Send them to a country like Turkey. They will beg to get back to those wonderful second worst jails in Georgia.

Yes my dear lady! Hell is very important for those who accept a religion to prove their faith to a higher power. Most choose a religion with 10 simple Commandments to prove their faith. The ones that do not give 100% effort to keep these Commandments Holy do not belong in a place called or described as a "heaven". They would create a social cancer like they do in this dimension of life. If Weiss came up with the plan, knew it was a sin, fought as hard as he could to avoid the temptation, and still committed it, he is no worse then a Christian who did not keep the Sabbath (sundown Friday until sundown Saturday) Holy this weekend. Actually he would be better. More people put energy into not killing someone than the do keeping the Sabbath Holy. Which is something because the Bible clearly states that all 10 Commandments are of equal importance.

If alligators have not eaten any long term prisoners, the jail is just fine.

Answer this for me, please. Why does any jail need to have a kitchen? I cannot figure that one out.

Our military personnel live each night and day surrounded by people trying to kill them and eat MRE (meals ready-to-eat). Why does Billy or anyone else think that we should cook for prisoners? I do not get it.

Case law on the books is a direct result of inmates suing and winning due to poor conditions in jails and prisons across the country. I may not think prisoners need great living conditions but the court does not agree with me.

I love the fact that someone can go through the whole bible a pull out a text that can contradict something. I will stand by what I have been taught and if you disagree then it is your right. God is the creator. God is our father. God gives us choices and if we choose to make the wrong choices then God will punish us like all good fathers. In your world the devil may trumph God but not in mine. So if a person chooses the devil as their father then God in his wisdom will give them that choice and punish them accordingly. I do not have to go take some bible verse out of context to know this. By the way one should be very careful in taking one verse from the bible an quoting it. One should try to see what the surrounding verses are relaying.

I have been all over the world shelia and those words that you speak are the same worrds I use to hear from the communist in the old Soviet Union.
I am anything but a bleeding heart. I believe in chain gangs working prisoners is not inhumane but not feeding them is. I know what the guy was trying to do and so did the courts.
You ask someone who knows what it cost to try a capital crime and then still house the guy for 20 years.He saved us money.Thats what Pike scrooges are all about saving money...Right??
I have never been locked up myself by the way ...
If you end up getting a federal lawsuit filed against you like the city of Atlanta did...Well then we really will pay.Trust me our jail is worse than theirs.
If our sheriff's budget can grow over 100% a year even through the recession then we should look at keep ouirselves out of a lawsuit that will be far more expensive
