I am so sorry for the loss of this obviously loved teacher. Here at the Journal-Reporter we work hard to keep up-to-date on the news. We will continue to cover this event as news is released.
SHE WILL BE DEFINITELY MISSED BY ALL OF HER STUDENTS AND ALL THAT KNEW HER. SHE WAS A GRADE A TEACHER AND FRIEND TO MANY. PCMS WILL NOT BE THE SAME WITHOUT HER.
I had her for a teacher back in '97. She was a wonderful teacher. She will be truly missed. Prayers go up for her family thru this tough time. She touched alot of young lives and she will not be forgotten.
I received a message in 2006 from her letting me know that she was enjoying having my son in her class. She went on letting me know she looked forward to a blessed school term. Thanking us for the privilege in serving our child in this educational setting.
This shows you how deep her faith was in Christ. Random act's of kindness every day helps. Take to the time thank one person every day, even if they are strangers. Never know you may the Angel that touches some ones life.
she was a great teacher to every one she taught. she was a great woman. she was kind and nice to everyone at PCMS. we will all miss her very much. WE LOVE YOU MRS.HARRIS. . .
Wow, perhaps this is not the most appropriate time to voice your obvious disdain for the superintendant. People are in pain regarding this loss, maybe you could offer sympathy to them?
You will be missed. You are know gone but not forgotten. So you are in a better place, all I say is we will see you again on the other side. So save us a spot. We love you, Betty, Craig, Ericka, Tiana, Nee-Nee, Jak'Nylah, Ze-Ze, London, Keman,
And Quran
Hello duncan watcher, if you could please email me, I would love to talk to you about Allen Eldridge. I did not know he died. He was VERY nice, in fact the ONLY one who followed special education laws when it came to the school helping (I mean NOT helping) my daughter. I really admired him.
This is atrocious! How can a lowly earthling judge another person when they have not lived in their mind, walked in their shoes, felt their pain. Shame on you!!!!!

Test scores don't mean so much

Is anybody other than me concerned about the grammar of these students in our so-called award winning school system? What a joke!
it has been about 4 years now since i had her as my math teacher. she stayed on me and tried to help me focus to get through the year. no one was more dedicated to her students than her. she was all about her lord and savior and was constantly saying how we should live in his path. i hope under the circumstances she is with our father now. she will be missed and i am glad to graduate this year knowing she taught me before she passed. keeping everything and everyone in my prayers.
Is anybody other than me more concerned about the devastation of a community's children than their grammar or bashing the school system? I personally have spent the last two days passing out the kleenex, holding hands, giving hugs, and remembering a beloved teacher with teenage children who are crushed. The teachers and staff of all the schools in our system have all come together to help our children through this terrible blow. I am proud that we have all helped raise children who would take their time to comment on an adult who made a difference in their lives. I am sure grammar is the last thing they are concerned with at this moment.
Mrs. Harris was my colleague and friend. I personally saw the lives of students and adults she touched. For 15 years, she has impacted the lives of countless people in this community. I am proud to be part of the PC family and to see that what we do makes a real difference in the lives of our kids. While I am still in shock as to what has occurred, I agree that we will never know what Urhonda's pain was and it is not for us to judge.
To Urhonda's family, we are all praying for you and will be here for you if there is anything you need. Be comforted by the comments posted here and know that Urhonda Harris made a difference in the lives of everyone she knew. She will not be forgotten.
I'm a senior in college now, but I still remember her 8th grade class. I was in her homeroom, math class, and reading class. I have very fond memories of her, and she is greatly missed.
My prayers go out to all of her students. I know they are in a great deal of pain right now. My heart goes out to them.
Test scores mean nothing right now. There are many of our kids that are devastated. Apparently you are not a parent that has a child affected by this tragedy. Our hearts should be with the family.
Yes children, keep on typing. I feel blessed to teach these students. It's our children and teachers that make our school system what it is. If you haven't noticed, we are here for our students in their time of need and not critiquing their grammar. If you knew her, then you know she dedicated herself to the students who needed that extra hand in math and reading.That was the angel she was.
I just want to say that we are so deeply saddened by this tragic loss. We lost a wonderful teacher and friend. I will deeply miss her smile and humor. My heart and prayers go out to her family.
Note: This is not the time to judge her nor our precious students. Please refrain from any negative comments on behalf of her students. She would want that.
Upon reading your comment my facial expression immediately changed to distaste when your nasty words started ringing through my head.
I must ask you why you are so angry. Is your world so little and incomplete that you must barge in on happy worlds for a beloved teacher to try to seek and destroy? Do your snide and ruthless remarks make you feel like a bigger person?
To be fair, I will admit that you are not the only person that leaves nasty comments. There are some other people that do it too. The difference between you and them is that they leave their name. Leaving their name does not take away from the nastiness, however I give them credit for at least having the guts to say what they have to say without hiding behind anonymity.
So go ahead and shed your cloak of anonymity. Be a man (or a woman) and spread your vicious trail, but please leave your name so we can all know who you are. Better yet, try this approach instead. Leave a comment. Be nice and polite. It is okay to disagree with the blogger but do it in a way that shows maturity and respect. Make your mother proud. Who knows, it might just make you feel better and soon you could be spreading your love and joy all around the blogosphere. I for one will give you a pat on the back.
Please try to remember that her students were also 6th graders, such as my son. I try to encourage my children not belittle them.
anybody who else has something negative to say about this can say it to my face an everbody else in this world feels the same.
and that crap about award winning school and grammar. what a load of bs!
half the kids that wrote this stuff was cryng so you can just shove it!!!
we love her an she was an AMAZING women, mother, an teacher. YOu just obviously dont know what your tlkin aabt.
think before you speak people.
bye..
um yes i agree with what amanda said i mean what kind of a low life pikz on kidz that are so down and at a loss i mean trik get a life!!!!!!!!! we GOT bigger fish to fry anyway to mrs.H i love u and i hope u come back and hunt that dumb #@!*$ that said that mess I LOVE YOU SOOOOOOOO MUCH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
and me and my friend would like too say something.
if you were a student here at pike county middle, then i would
think you would be just alittle affected like we are, your comments arnt needed at this time we are all upset and need comfort more than juding us on grammer right now. So however our teacher's here mean everything too us. we love her and miss her. So for everyone that would like too leave a nasty comment you should be ashamed or your selves, we're 6th 7th and 8th grader's here we arnt the strongest so if you would like too say something like you did, then you need too think about how many feeling's your hurting and TRYING to make us look bad. We are an "award winning school" in our own certain way and it may not be "grammer" but my goodness, we have our own certain way's of this so please dont judge us on GRAMMER i think it's alittle immature, and you must be too after we have lost a teacher that's been here for us through everthing so if i were you i would refrain from mean things, because it's hurting and not helping ANY AT ALL, we have who and what we need, and your comments are not needed here, so thanks(:
ill miss you forever and always. Every morning and after noon you told me goodmorning and goodbye,Ill truly miss your sweet smile and wonderful voice.This year will not be the same without you,i love you forever!
I am so saddened by the community's loss. I worked with this wonderful teacher for six years. She was a strong-willed, intelligent lady. There are no words to comfort anyone at this time. Only the Lord can do that now. Be kind to one another. Remember, she would not be bothered by ignorant comments. Pray for her family, her students, and all those she touched.
I go to Lamar county high school so i do not know her but this touched my heart when i heard the story. i just wanted to say im sorry to her daughter and family and i am a senior in high school and cmart comments are very childish. if i was cying and upset as much as these kids were i would not give a shit about spelling. how dare u pick a loving womans comment page to leave ur selfish childish comments! maybe you shoul... i cant even describe what i want to say to you! just get a life and im sure i would have loved you!!!
Hey Ericka i think that was so sweet what you did i was looking for somebody in the family that i knew and did you read that one bout 2 up from yours that lady talking bout she mad who cares dont no body kno what she was goin thru so cant nobody say nothing about what she did... love always
your oldest daughter
Eisha

AND CANT NOBODY SAY NOTHING ABOUT WHAT YOU HAVE DONE BECAUSE DONT ANYBODY KNOWS A PERSON FELLING UNLESS THEY TELL THEM SO ALL YOU PEOPLE THAT HAVE ANYTHING NEGATIVE TO SAY ABOUT MY COUSIN JUS KEEP ALL YOUR COMMENTS TO YOUR SELF THANKS BECAUSE SHE HAVE KIDS AND THEY DONT NEED TO SEE ALL THAT IF YOU DONT HAVE NOTHING NICE TO SAY DONT SAY NOTHING AT ALL.
P.S KENT AND NIJAL KEEP YOUR HEAD UP EVERYTHING IS GOING TO BE ALRITE...

I ask that all involved in this thread accept my apologies. I am moderating this thread and some of the comments were a bit inappropriate and caused more grief for the family than they are already having to deal with. Some comments were deleted and I ask that you accept my apology for that.
I invite you to repost any condolences or remembrances you wish. Thank you for understanding.
Mrs. Urhonda Harris was a really sweet,nice,and loveing woman..I had her when I was in the 8th grade and she was the main one that kept me going and made me realize that I was a bright and intelligent student. She was the only one that I felt had any confidence in me even when I felt none for myself. Everyday when I would come into her class room for Math she would always greet me and ask how my day was and how I had been doing. I loved her and still do till this day I will always love her and she will always stay with me in my heart. She was always happy never once did I see her when she wasn't happy. I'm really good friends with her daughter Kenyatta. My prayers go out for her Close friends and family and I'm deeply sorry about their loss because she was the best woman I had ever known and the best teacher I had had all through school. Keep your head up students and remember she will always stay with you in your hearts, minds and souls god bless.
You pompous jerk. Who do you think you are? You have no right to say how these children grieve. I have seen children sobbing uncontrollably and others with blank looks on their faces because they are still in shock. These children are hurting because a beloved teacher has been taken from them. You will, most likely, go to church on sunday and put on a show. You will act like a christian. God sees your true self and will judge your lack of compassion for others.
My family and I send our prayers to Mrs. Harris' family and all the people whose lives she touched. My son was her student in 8th grade. After four years, she still asked me how he is doing and remembered that he is a senior. Any teacher that takes that much pride in each of her students will be missed. Remember that one day you will loose someone that you love, or maybe you don't have the capacity to love another person. I am sure there is something that means alot to you. I hope and pray that you never have to go through the pain that we all feel. God Bless You. I will pray for you.
Weep not, weep not,
She is not dead;
She's resting in the bosom of Jesus.
Heart-broken husband--weep no more;
Grief-stricken son--weep no more;
Left-lonesome daughter --weep no more;
She only just gone home.
Day before yesterday morning,
God was looking down from his great, high heaven,
Looking down on all his children,
And his eye fell on Sister Urhonda,
Tossing on her bed of pain.
And God's big heart was touched with pity,
With the everlasting pity.
And God sat back on his throne,
And he commanded that tall, bright angel standing at his right hand:
Call me Death!
And that tall, bright angel cried in a voice
That broke like a clap of thunder:
Call Death!--Call Death!
And the echo sounded down the streets of heaven
Till it reached away back to that shadowy place,
Where Death waits with his pale, white horses.
And Death heard the summons,
And he leaped on his fastest horse,
Pale as a sheet in the moonlight.
Up the golden street Death galloped,
And the hooves of his horses struck fire from the gold,
But they didn't make no sound.
Up Death rode to the Great White Throne,
And waited for God's command.
And God said: Go down, Death, go down,
Go down to Zebulon, Georgia,
Down in Pike County,
And find Sister Urhonda.
She's borne the burden and heat of the day,
She's labored long in my vineyard,
And she's tired--
She's weary--
Go down, Death, and bring her to me.
And Death didn't say a word,
But he loosed the reins on his pale, white horse,
And he clamped the spurs to his bloodless sides,
And out and down he rode,
Through heaven's pearly gates,
Past suns and moons and stars;
on Death rode,
Leaving the lightning's flash behind;
Straight down he came.
While we were watching round her,
She turned her eyes and looked away,
She saw what we couldn't see;
She saw Old Death. She saw Old Death
Coming like a falling star.
But Death didn't frighten Sister Caroline;
He looked to her like a welcome friend.
And she whispered: I'm going home,
And she smiled and closed her eyes.
And Death took her up like a baby,
And she lay in his icy arms,
But she didn't feel no chill.
And death began to ride again--
Up beyond the evening star,
Into the glittering light of glory,
On to the Great White Throne.
And there he laid Sister Urhonda
On the loving breast of Jesus.
And Jesus took his own hand and wiped away her tears,
And he smoothed the furrows from her face,
And the angels sang a little song,
And Jesus rocked her in his arms,
And kept a-saying: Take your rest,
Take your rest.
Weep not--weep not,
She is not dead;
She's resting in the bosom of Jesus.
Hello Drew,
Thank you for your kind apology. You have done nothing wrong. It is just sad that some people can be so cruel as to post items that require moderating. These people will look back one day when they are in emotional pain and question their own lack of concern for others.
It's interesting you chose that poem. I taught that poem in one of my classes when I taught across the hall from this wonderful teacher. I never thought I would have to relate it to her. What a good choice of poetry.
As I had to watch "my children" board the bus on that sad day, their eyes red from crying, I know how proud I was to be a part of the Pike County School family. The children on my bus (97-28) were deeply affected by this. The closeness of the staff as well as the other students touched my heart deeply. As a driver, I got to see alot of Mrs. Harris last year. She always had a smile on her face. I know that she touched many people in many ways. My condolences to the staff that had the pleasure of working with her and the many support systems that the students and faculty had available to them. Thank you for offering comfort, not only to my PCMS student but also to all of them. I know Mrs. Harris will truly be missed by all the Pike County family. My prayers are with the family.
I want to send a special prayer up for the children of this woman. Remember above and beyond anyone or anything, they are the one's who lost their Mother. Please Lord wrap your arms around her precious babies, keep them safe with you Lord for they are the ones who need to be protected. For the entire family, I am very sorry for your loss and I hope that this time will bring you closer together, regardless of how you feel about the situation just remember that she has two children that need your love and support right now. May God Bless you and bring peace unto you.
As a former co-worker and friend of this teacher. She was a wonderful, caring , hard working individual and will be missed greatly by the students of Pike county . I am greatly sorry to hear of her passing May God bless all of you for your loss .

I attended the memorial service today, and I was very pleased to see the support and turnout. Mrs. Harris (I knew her as Ms. Hines) was a couple of years behind me in school, and I knew her as a very quiet and shy young lady.
Sadly I never saw her again until today's service, but everyone describes her as an absolute angel, graciously touching the lives of her students, family and friends. May she rest in peace.
I have not seen Uronda in several years, but I also went to school and knew most of the Hines family as well.
I remember her as being very quiet in school and on the shy side.
She has a great family that that will miss her dearly.
May God bless her family and comfort them durning this difficult time.

i will miss you mrs. harris you ment alot to me. i will miss your funny jokes and all your help i wish you were still here i want you back alot. i will miss you!!!!!!!!!!!!!
To the children of Ms. Harris: always remember those special times, remember her smile, remember her voice, remember her favorite things. I know what you are feeling right now because i recently lost my mom and God i didnt know what to do or what to say except just scream. But with Gods awesome love it gets a little easier everyday. Just know that you both are in my heart and my spirit. Just ask The Lord He will help you get through this awful time in your lifes. May the blessings of an Awsome and Loving God fill your lifes forever.
I just want to start off by saying, I had Mrs. Harris as my 8th grade teacher a few years ago... She was one of the best teachers I ever had and the best Algebra teacher ever... I really hate to hear this about such a great person... It is a sad and tragic lost to everyone from Pike County that knew her... She always made class fun and always had great jokes to tell and make people laugh... She actually even made Algebra II fun... I hope all is ok with her family during this time, our thoughts and prayers go to them... WE WILL MISS YOU MRS. HARRIS... You were one of the Greatest teachers Pike County ever had... R.I.P Mrs. Urhonda Harris
You know what instead of me saying anything bad... Just grow up dude... Right now is not the time to try to be funny about stuff or to say things like that... People don't care about grammar and those sort of things right now... Either have a heart and be a man and feel bad like everyone else or just be quiet and grown up...
I didn't know Mrs. Harris as much as i would have wanted too. Every morning when i would walk down the hall she would smile one of her brilliant smiles....And wave or greet me. As i read all of these i see how much she is missed. I wish i could say i knew her but i did'nt i knew her but i didnt know HER. I just want to give my prayers to her close friends and family. Myself being a pike county middle school student i saw how much she really touched others lives and it just broke my heart. When i went to the viewing with my brother who had been one of her students i saw how many people were there and it made me very happy to see how many people were there for support. God bless you for your lose.
*RIP* Mrs. Harris you will be missed!!
I would just like to start off by saying that although Mrs.Harris did not teach me,I was and still am veryy sad that this tradgetyy has occured. I was standing in this beautiful womans class room when they'd announced that she'd passed away earlier that morning,
and i was veryy much in shock. It had taken me a couple of hours before it had actually occured to me that the gorgeous ladyy Mrs. Urhonda Harris who I'd known to always have a huge smile on her face and had always greeted me veryy nicely everytime i passed her, She'd ask a simple "How are you doing today", or "Good morning", was no longer going to be waiting in her doorway for students to pass by and greet, including me. I've begun to feel like i know her now more than ever after having sooo manyy story's told to me, I wish that i could've known her a little bit better. I have kept and still will keep her blessed famillyy,students,falcuty, and close friends in my prayers.
To everyone who knew this amazing woman I would just like to tell you to keep your head held high and your thoughts positive, becausse with God in control everything is going to be just fine!
ILY Mrs.Harris and always will,
Rest In Peace.
I CAN TELL YOU IT IS HORRIBLE TO BE DEPRESSED ALL OF YOUR LIFE. CRYING ALL THE TIME. HURTING SO BAD GOING TO MANY DOCTORS THAT CAN'T SEEM TO HELP YOU. YES I HAD THOUGHT OF SUCIDE BUT HAVE NO COURAGE, I CAN NOT STAND THE THOUGHT OF LEAVING MY KIDS. I STILL STAY EVERYDAY HOPING TO FIND THE RIGHT. ONLY PRAY FOR THOSE STILL TRYING TO MAKE IT EVERY DAY BECAUSE THE FACE WHO SMILES COULD BE THE NEXT TO DECIDE IT'S TO PAINFUL.. SORRY I DID LOVE HER AND SHE WAS GREAT....
Hi guys. I?m telling you, things are getting out of hand. Or maybe I?m discovering that things were never in my hands.
I am from Venezuela and bad know English, give please true I wrote the following sentence: "Looking for airfare discounts on the internet? In here you find cheap airline tickets, cheap flights, airline discount tickets expert travel advice."
How are you. I believe that all government is evil, and that trying to improve it is largely a waste of time.
I am from Ethiopia and also now am reading in English, give true I wrote the following sentence: "These types of tickets will have more scope for low priced tickets as there are could be many another airlines for one country."
mrs. harris was a wonderfull teacher and we all loved her

-conserned student(S).
She was a great teacher. I had her for homeroom, and for masth of course, and I loved it. She would always walk you through everything, and make sure you understand it. Man, she was an AMAZING teacher, person, and mother. You are greatly loved, and will be extremely missed.
Today is July 29, 2010 and it has been over a yr. since Rhonda passed. My name is LaToya Parks. I live in Luthersville GA. and Rhonda and i met at Panasonic in peachtree city ga. way back in 1993. Rhonda and i worked side by side for nearly a yr. or more and talked every day even on the w/ends. But as time went on, we both ended up leaving that job and kinda lost touch in the early 2000's. I saw Rhonda again maybe around the mid 2000's. one of my kids had a basketball game at PCMS. We talked, and laughed as if we had still talked every day. Thinking about her now makes me smile because the conversation we had was about someone her and my husband both new and they made a couple of jokes. In 1993 I had a house warming party and the gifts she gave me still hangon my wall in my bedroom. It is a pair of sconces that I take pride in knowing that she took the time to pick out just for me and I have the privilege of seeing them every day. I never knew the significance of those things til now and why I could never find any thing else to hang in their spot on my wall. Now I know why. They are special because they were given to me by someone very special. I am so gateful to have the special memories of Rhonda and man oh man how much we laughed and enjoyed each other company. I only wish I could have been there to try and help her in her time of need , as I know so many others do too. Could the special laughter we onced shared help ease her pain or if I hadn't lost her number that last time I received it could I have called at just the right time..?? Oh well, I love u Hon and I pray I see u one day in Heaven,
love your friend,
Toya
does anyone know when that may be?!
This shows you how deep her faith was in Christ. Random act's of kindness every day helps. Take to the time thank one person every day, even if they are strangers. Never know you may the Angel that touches some ones life.

think you would be just alittle affected like we are, your comments arnt needed at this time we are all upset and need comfort more than juding us on grammer right now. We are an "award winning school" in our own certain way and it may not be "grammer" but my goodness, we have our own certain way's of this so please dont judge us on GRAMMER i think it's alittle immature, and you must be too after we have lost a teacher that's been here for us through everthing so if i were you i would refrain from mean things, because it's hurting and not helping ANY AT ALL, we have who and what we need, and your comments are not needed here, so thanks(:
your oldest daughter
Eisha

My family and I send our prayers to Mrs. Harris' family and all the people whose lives she touched. My son was her student in 8th grade. After four years, she still asked me how he is doing and remembered that he is a senior. Any teacher that takes that much pride in each of her students will be missed. Remember that one day you will loose someone that you love, or maybe you don't have the capacity to love another person. I am sure there is something that means alot to you. I hope and pray that you never have to go through the pain that we all feel. God Bless You. I will pray for you.
She is not dead;
She's resting in the bosom of Jesus.
Heart-broken husband--weep no more;
Grief-stricken son--weep no more;
Left-lonesome daughter --weep no more;
She only just gone home.
Day before yesterday morning,
God was looking down from his great, high heaven,
Looking down on all his children,
And his eye fell on Sister Urhonda,
Tossing on her bed of pain.
And God's big heart was touched with pity,
With the everlasting pity.
And God sat back on his throne,
And he commanded that tall, bright angel standing at his right hand:
Call me Death!
And that tall, bright angel cried in a voice
That broke like a clap of thunder:
Call Death!--Call Death!
And the echo sounded down the streets of heaven
Till it reached away back to that shadowy place,
Where Death waits with his pale, white horses.
And Death heard the summons,
And he leaped on his fastest horse,
Pale as a sheet in the moonlight.
Up the golden street Death galloped,
And the hooves of his horses struck fire from the gold,
But they didn't make no sound.
Up Death rode to the Great White Throne,
And waited for God's command.
And God said: Go down, Death, go down,
Go down to Zebulon, Georgia,
Down in Pike County,
And find Sister Urhonda.
She's borne the burden and heat of the day,
She's labored long in my vineyard,
And she's tired--
She's weary--
Go down, Death, and bring her to me.
And Death didn't say a word,
But he loosed the reins on his pale, white horse,
And he clamped the spurs to his bloodless sides,
And out and down he rode,
Through heaven's pearly gates,
Past suns and moons and stars;
on Death rode,
Leaving the lightning's flash behind;
Straight down he came.
While we were watching round her,
She turned her eyes and looked away,
She saw what we couldn't see;
She saw Old Death. She saw Old Death
Coming like a falling star.
But Death didn't frighten Sister Caroline;
He looked to her like a welcome friend.
And she whispered: I'm going home,
And she smiled and closed her eyes.
And Death took her up like a baby,
And she lay in his icy arms,
But she didn't feel no chill.
And death began to ride again--
Up beyond the evening star,
Into the glittering light of glory,
On to the Great White Throne.
And there he laid Sister Urhonda
On the loving breast of Jesus.
And Jesus took his own hand and wiped away her tears,
And he smoothed the furrows from her face,
And the angels sang a little song,
And Jesus rocked her in his arms,
And kept a-saying: Take your rest,
Take your rest.
Weep not--weep not,
She is not dead;
She's resting in the bosom of Jesus.
u always kept me goin and made me realize that I was a really pretty & smart girl
Thank you for your kind apology. You have done nothing wrong. It is just sad that some people can be so cruel as to post items that require moderating. These people will look back one day when they are in emotional pain and question their own lack of concern for others.

Sadly I never saw her again until today's service, but everyone describes her as an absolute angel, graciously touching the lives of her students, family and friends. May she rest in peace.
I remember her as being very quiet in school and on the shy side.
She has a great family that that will miss her dearly.
May God bless her family and comfort them durning this difficult time.

*RIP* Mrs. Harris you will be missed!!
and i was veryy much in shock.
