Spalding County Sheriff Dee Stewart died early Sunday morning at the Atlanta Medical Center.

My prayers & condolences go out to the Stewart family, it is such an irony that Dee & his brother both died as a result of a vehicle accident,& both of them being in law enforcement.....

I knew Dee very well and he helped me out with a problem one time and I will forever be greatful. Rest in peace Dee, you were a GOOD Sheriff and a GREAT human being.

The sherriff was a fine man. But, you bring up a good point. Was blood test done and why were neither driver wearing a seat belt? Was the other driver speeding? These are question and answers we would receive from anyone else.

I am an old woman.................I have never heard a negative comment about Dee Stewart. That speaks volumes, I can say that about NO OTHER sheriff.

It is a great point. This story sounds a little off to me. What really did happen? Would it change anything to know? Probably. Thats why they are not going to answer any "tough questions". Like when that young girl hit a tree and was video taped by a firefighter. The whole incident happened because she was intoxicated but it was never mentioned in the press. Then everyone wants to say how great she was. Great at letting alcohol destroy her life.
Americans have a way of turning everyone into a "great man" when they die. I am surprised a Christian did not write about him being in a "better place" now that he has passed. You know the one. The dark cold hole in the ground awaiting Jesus's return. As it is written any way.
As far as what that old lady is saying give me a break. Dee was not perfect and had people not like him both in his career and personal life. If he didnt he would not even be human. And I am sure there is at least one inmate in a cell somewhere who is not sad about this news.
When you are a big man, packing a gun, and wearing a badge it is true that most people will show courtesy out of fear other than respect. Was Dee a good man? That secret went to the grave with him. He does have a big fan club though. Quit whining a crying that he is gone. That exhibits nothing but selfishness to me. Be glad that he was part of your life and continue to celebrate the life of the late Dee Stewart.

It will not change anything but I bet if it was someone that you did not like or respect you would want to know. If it was a NBA player the first thing you would think and want to know was if he was drunk. Isn't it standard procedure to do a test on someone when they are in a accident. He is a public figure and if everyone else is reported his should be too.

Here's how it works. Any accident in the state of GA involving serious injury requires a blood test be done. Also the state requires that an autopsy be done on every person that dies from anything other than natural causes. Now will we ever know the answers to those questions, probably not. But, is that so important. A well respected man lost his life tragically. No matter what the outcome, he has passed on. Please let Sheriff Dee Stewart rest in peace. All of this bickering and non sense is a shame. I hope that when each of you meet your fate, people dont come on here and act as foolish as some of you are.

He was a public figure, he chose to be a public figure and he should be under the same scrutiny as all public figures. If this is the case then all crime reports in newspapers and on the internet should be taken down. As a police officer I bet you do not object when just "common folk" who are great people have their reports published in the public forum.

First of all let me start by saying that I have read some of the most backwoods country responses from who ever this idiot is, that calls himself anono.This is the same guy who totally disrespected that girl from back in July. Said the parents were only after money..Well Einstein, the family did not sue the county. So whats up with that calious accusation. YOU WERE WRONG!!!! If you were at all connected you would know that the accident is still under investigation, no report has been released and there is a possible suspect who MAYBE caused the accident. Your convolution reveals you are pleased to be mentally challenged and proud that you are being emulated because of your peer learned social disability. Couple that with, "It doesn't take an intelligent person to know when they post.", displays you are lacking mediocre intelligence, because hypothetically, an intelligent person would not be able to recognize a non-starter post. You are correct on that point, because, me being an astute individual, I recognize you crave attention by penning such drivel.

Anono, what you dont seem to realize is that you never hear the full story of what happened in any crime. What you hear is what the news wants you to hear. They twist the story to make it look bad for whoever is at fault. You can spin any story and make it look good or bad. Do I think that we should be under the same scrutiny as "common Folk" as you say. No, I thinkwe should be under more. And we are. Despite what you think we are. Every story you hear on the news about police officers is bad. You never hear the good stuff. I have been doing this for 15 years and have saved many lives and have never been on the news for that. But let me have to do my job and protect myself and others by shooting someone and I will be on trial for murder. We have just a few seconds to make a decision that you get to scrutinize for weeks and months and years. How is that fair. Now if some random "common folk" did the same he would be labeled a hero. How is that possible. We get paid a horrible salary and put our lives on the line every day for you and your family to have the freedoms allowed under the law. So why can it not just be that Sheriff Stewart had an accident and was killed tragically. Why does it have to be scrutinized. Oh yeah I forgot cops are not heroes Firemen are. Excuse Me...

what effect will this have on spaldings illegal drug trade? is it possible that the new sheriff will actually clean spalding up? i know all those that depend on the media to educate them think dee is the greatest. and thats cool. but for us who are educated on the streets of griffin we feel a wee bit different. how would momma put it? ignorance is bliss?

I have heard people talk negative about their mothers. I have even heard people curse God at times. But Dee Stewart? Heck no! He was perfect. No one would ever say anything bad about him ever. Me, my friends, and everyone everywhere I go, agree with me. As do I. With this great sense of reasoning I have what other sheriff out there wants me to vouch for them?

They did not sue the county because the county was cleared of any wrong doing. The firefighter who got fired aint worth being sued because he was fired and has been home collecting unemployment and soon to be on foodstamps. How about the watering hole she left that evening? Whats up with that suit/settlement? I know it is common practice to reach a settlement without making it public knowledge. You can say I have expertise in that area. Have you seen her toxicology report? Pretty high numbers for a "little angel super mom".
I am both physically and mentally handicapped due to someone who thought driving on the wrong side of the road made sense at the time. That is the RESPECT impaired drivers have for your friends and loved ones when they chose to drive while putting everyones safety at risk. Sorry sunshine, you gotta give respect to get respect in my world.

That is very true Phil. Its all part of an attempt to make the mourning family feel better. Dee was the greatest and he is going to a better place. Yeah yeah. The bible says that better place is a dark cold hole in the ground until Jesus comes back. But as clear as that is written in the bible people will listen to an uneducated sermon about their loved ones being in a better place. One thing I can say about Christians as they sure are patient. They are willing to wait thousands of years for their loved ones to get out of the dirt and continue with thier everlasting life.

That is very true. If it was a random pike resident that was out drinking and got in a car wreck an autopsy would be done to determine the BAC. And if the individual was drinking they would post it in this newspaper. But something with such high authority would never be exploited of drinking and driving, that's just UNHEARD of!

Not just authority. Little princess drunk girls who fail to maintain a lane will also be protected from the public. What exactly are the facts we heard so far about the accident ? Did everyone hear that Dee was pulling onto Hwy 19/41 off of Moose Lodge road and apparently pulled into the path of his own grandson ? That is what I have heard and seen from what little we the public have been told correct ? Well if that is true am I the only one that has a problem with the accident scence markings ??? I am no accident investigator by any stretch of the imagination nor am I a veterinarian but I know a horses butt when I smell one ! From the news choppers aerial view that day and after personally driving by the scene after the tire marks were painted at the accident scene it clearly shows that Dee was stopped at the stop sign and had not pulled onto Hwy 19/41. It also clearly shows that his grandson's vehicle clearly left Hwy 19/41 and struck Dee in the side pushing him almost straight back into the wooded arear not down 19/41 ! The flags are still there showing Dees vehicle path after impact. It simply does not add up. As to it changing anything, If it was your son, daughter, dad, mother, brother, sister or whoever would you want to know the truth as to what happened or not ? I hope alcohol or texting or just horseplay was not involved but if it was the grandson should not be on the road or who will be next ? You ? Me ? Our loved ones ? Pick up a copy of the accident report yourself and see what you think.
