Wow!!! Now if we can get the State to give the center to the Sheriffs Office, they will have a state of the art facility and can get income for housing out of county prisoners. Maybe the BOC needs to start working on this now.

The BOC is busy talking about wasting money on expanding a courthouse with limited parking. Your idea makes you sound like a genius compared to theirs.

I was told that the center will be closing effective March next year. The employees there have already been told this.

My Friend Jimmy Bass would'nt be happy unless they had an assembly line of American Workers and a Union Shop Stewart.

Wait until they get the first month's water and light bill. 200 people. 24/7 equals about $15,000 - $ 18,000 a month.

200 x 35.00 per day = 7000.00 per day x 30= 210,000.00 per month

Ad maintenance, food, clothing medical, bedding, laundry, fuel, insurance and it's $800K a year, and you haven't made payroll the first time.

Add all that and you still will not hit the 2 million per year in revenue. Lamar countys jail is a cash cow for the county. They have big time problems over their with money, but the jail helps reduce some of the problem. You sre just against a way to help reduce our property tax

No sir/no m'am. I just don't think that our average bear understands that IF every bed is full - an empty bed costs the same as a full bed - that one can't just look at the cash inflow but the costs involved. I.E. jail inmates cannot be made to work, either inside or outside of the facility, unless they are convicted and sentenced to county jail time, a very, very small number of " defendants".

We are not talking about making them work. We are talking about renting cell space. Not only would we save the 100,000 per year or so that we spend housing our own inmates in Lamar and Upson facilities. Over all we take in more than we pay out on a monthly basis. This would help cut he SO budget considerably and our tax bill .
