Pride of Pike cancelled

The 2011 Pride of Pike Independence Day Celebration was cancelled at the April parks and recreation authority board meeting. According to director Kevin Teate, it was a difficult decision based on budget cuts in the upcoming fiscal year starting July 1 – just days before the event.

So the county did not lose money on the event...according to my calculations they made $1900...and they can't host this event for our families???? Bah Humbug!!!

Pay for it yourself if you want it so bad or hey go make some firehouse cornbread and try to get someone to buy it. That might get your about a nickle.

July 4th fireworks is JC's only enjoyment in life. How can anyone take this away from our only Pike Patriot Homeowner????????????

Cut spending??? They made a profit. Every year it is packed and I for one wouldn't mind paying a litte more for parking if that is the only reason they are not doing it. My family enjoys and looks forward to this every year.

The County did not lose money so why not host it again? I mean it was largely attended and it was about the community getting together. Sad it is not happening this year!

if enough people dont come to cover the cost the county loses money and there is no guarantee but if you want to collect a buck from every man woman and child in the county then you can gurantee the cost and do it yourself like the other guy said

Simple. Find something to do besides fireworks. Hire a band instead and set up a street dance. That's what we used to do.

Fireworks are nice but yes I am sure a parade and other things could be done. I just dont think the Recreation Department wants to make any effort at making it work.

why not use the splost money. Only makes since to waste it on this also since it is going to be wasted on everything else.

The county DID NOT lost money last year on the event...they just poor mouth about it every year...We need to celebrate our independance while we still have it!!! LOL

Yes, Rosey did offer and Paris Swift took pies in the face to help JC put this wonderful fireworks program together. Trust me, JC will not let this be swept under the carpet.

The problem is a lack of leadership from the BOC. The Rec Employees don't even know if they'll have a job in July...

That's why it has been canceled, At least the Rec People are Accountable.

Think maybe the Pike Patriot Homeowner Hero might have stomped the wrong toes? Looks like JC will have to go to Fulton County to have fun. Look out for sprinkles.

SPLOST money being wasted? on fixing holes int he courthouse roof? Rewiring the building so it won't burn down? Making it safer for people during capital trials? You speak like an idiot.

David Hughes did not cancel this program because of John C. Morrison. JC cannot understand money is tight. Just ask anyone in the Property Tax Office.

John C. Morrison should keep his tongue sharp remarks to himself when referring to David Hughes or Commissioner Carol Bass. Both are successful citizens, well educated and most of all have paid their obligation of property taxes which were due December 20th of 2010.

WILL SOMEONE PLEASE answer this one for me??rec dept charge more money$$ too play baseball, softball,soccer, than in griffin,lamar,upson...AND GET THIS THEY(REC DEPT} going up on there prices next year?...geeeezzz....time for travel ball for same price? maybe they can use this extra $$ for the firecrackers...
