County commissioners discussed SPLOST courthouse renovations that may include adding 3,000 square feet to accommodate a superior court request for additional office space and commissioner Carol Bass’ desire to keep the tax commissioners office in the historic building.

Ask Yourself, Why Does Carol Bass want to keep the Tax Commissioner and others in the Courthouse? I don't believe that is Her true goal.

Since the Pike County courthouse is on the National Register of Historic Places, can additions be made that will alter the facade of the courthouse?

they could dig a basement. put two underground levels and let all the government workers work there including the judges.

yes, they can add on to the existing structure they will just have to make the additions match the old portion of the courthouse.

Other counties have made additions to their courthouses that are on the national register.

Here we go again. Let's add this, do away with nothing. Why not let the judges offices be in portable trailers. If they're good enough for the school kids why not for judges. Put em in the sheriff's parkin lot. Close enough. Buy em umbrellas for inclement weather. The short wlak would do them good. And would be a ---- sight cheaper!

Thanks to Bill Sawyer and The Architech for thinking on their feet. If Carol Bass's motion had passed as She originally stated the project would of been in deep do do.

it's a shame that fred blackmon and the rest of the boe have allowed our facilities to get so run down while spending 60+ % on administrative costs.

where is that $24 million dollars going?

i know some of it pays for fred's insurance.
