More than 300 Pike County citizens stopped by the courthouse to vote early by noon Friday, March 4. The last day for to vote early on the SPLOST issue is March 11 and Election Day is March 15. The five-year Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax would fund courthouse renovations and road improvements.

doesn't matter if we vote yes or no the county is going to give us one big you know what. What happened to the right to say yes or no and not worry about well this will happen if you vote no? What you think we live in Uganda or something?

The Polecat owner can scream, tell us how we should vote for SPLOST. He claims to be a community leader, attends all the meetings and makes his voice heard. He is on the Planning Board yet he has not paid his property taxes due December 20th of last year. County laws say you cannot have junk cars on your property, they must have a tag and insurance. He has two in his front yard and his assistant has two in her front yard. Community leaders? I don't think so, just different strokes for different folks.

Code enforcement came through Hill Top like a army. Junk cars, trailers, old lawn mowers and used tires were written up and had to go. How did she miss hwy 18 and Reidsboro Road? Both were in Mr. Willis district, stuck it to us but the elite are looked over!

Maybe that is why JC in no longer a CFA member. David, Gary and Jimmy have paid their property taxes on time and yards are not full of junk cars. Then of course David, Gary and Jimmy love their Pike County and are accountable citizens. JC? Maybe he should move back to Henry County or Jonesboro. He is no Pike Patriot Homeowner! Just say no to SPLOST and more taxes.

Give it a break. So JC has not paid his property taxes. Peoples on the welfare till for disability, unemployment and on food stamps are having a rough time. He is not like our former commissioner (also unemployed for the past 9 years) whose mother has to pay property taxes where he lives.

Parrish, get over it. You should be proud of your record. More votes were cast against you than any election ever in Pike County. Go back and get your GED and find a job. BTW what is a "Diverlance?" Is that like a BOC Cherman?

The SPLOST vote has nothing to do with a penny sales tax, nor with preserving our 'Historic Courthouse'. The vote on SPLOST this tuesday is nothing more or less than a vote of confidence in our elected representatives in stewardship of the limited resources entrusted them.What we are seeing locally is a microcosm of popular uprisings and revolts occurring worldwide. Government consumes producing only more government. Like a shark it must never stop consuming and expanding or it will die. The greatest fear of the federal government is not the prospect of a 'shut down' but the realization of the populace that its not needed in the first place. The mere proposal of SPLOST is a defacto acknowledgement of the inability to manage the resources available.

Try luxury tax, that will never happen because the rich want the poor to pay, not them. This is a higher tax for luxury items when purchased only, like: boats, jewelry, cosmetics, cosmetic surgery,luxury cars,Cruises, and things like that. If they want more money let the ones who can afford it pay, instead they write everything off on taxes.

Once again our politicians refuse to listen! WE THE PEOPLE voted "NO" on splost in the last election, yet the politicians want it so badly they make us go to vote again, squandering valuable county resources. If the county has to cut their budget, have the politicians not figured the property owners have had to cut their budget, too? With rising gas, food and clothing prices (who can afford new clothing), the average household is straining to put food on the table. Now is not the time for the county to demand more from their citizens, but to utilize the resources they have to provide the necessary services. Perhaps a few full-time employees need to be part-time or county cars need to stay parked at the facility and the employees drive to work in their own vehicle. Cuts can be made without sacrificing services, our children or our wallet.

Just put up a toll bridge at the Upson County line. The only reason people come to Pike is to get through Pike. They are headed to Griffin, Atlanta, etc. Forget Splost. How many times does it need to be voted down before it counts as a real vote? Is this another SPLOST test run.

We said no....you got that?

Go to washingtonwatch.com and you'll see there is legislation out there right now for a Fair Tax.

I'm for it, but by the time all those states finish adding the wording they want, to benefit them and not us, I won't be for this bill.

Citizens of Pike, I have given all my time and concentration on getting the SPLOST past. Thanks to the local churchs, friends and neighbors my property tax will be paid before April 1. As far as the junk cars in my yard they will be removed this weekend by Buddies Recycle. Thank you for your vote and donations.
