The Pike County commissioners finalized a $95,000 budget cut and the authorities impacted have struggled to deal with the cuts. The Industrial Development Authority budget was cut $19,023 and as a result dissolved a longstanding services agreement between the IDA and Chamber of Commerce. Chamber president Karen Brown was laid off with her last day being Feb. 25.

i said these very words on the last article about this. i would have liked to have seen the commissioners reduce there stipends to help control the budget.
i would have also liked to have seen the sheriff's office cut their budget instead of raising it 50%. maybe it's time CFA started publishing the issues in that department as well.
we have a good sheriff's department but they spend too much. it's time to reign them in. please feel free however to send them donations. i'm sure they will appreciate it.
change your name if your going to be so lame.
i'm a poet and don't know it.
Can an educated person explain to me why my taxes do not take a nose dive when the property values all over the United States have taken a big one?
If this had been the Rec Department or another pet authority, citizens and employees would have been up in arms about it. This department's employees took it silently and with understanding.
Next budget year, this department is looking at even further cuts to their budget. What department is it? Don't know? No guesses? The answer to this $175,000 question? The fire department, what most other governments say is a required expenditure for the safety and welfare of their citizens.
The taxes you pay are based on the millage rate. The millage rate is determined by the budget from the Board of Commissioners and the Board of Education. So it is very possible for your taxes to go up even though your value may have gone down. That is why everyone needs to be very concerned about the budgets (they control the mill rates which controls the amount of taxes you pay). This is why I'm very concerned about the passing of the SPLOST. If for some reason, we do not collect enough thru sales tax, we, the taxpayers, will have to make up the difference with our property taxes. Some continue to say that without the SPLOST, we are going to have to pay for the rennovation of the Courthouse anyway because some Judge is going to mandate us to. I simply cannot see a Judge (who is elected) mandate that any county builds a new courthouse or an extensive remodeling job in today's economy. If families cannot afford to pay their house payments, feed their families, and maintain day to day living, how can a Judge expect them to pay more in property taxes for remodeling a courthouse?? There have been court in the court room for years and years, so I really don't see why they can't continue to hold court there under the same conditions. If the ceiling is so offensive to everyone, they don't have to look up at it. At the end of the day,it's not going to make a difference if a person is found guily or innocent. At least, they have air conditioning, carpet, ceiling fans, and a PA system up there. I remeber the days when they didn't even have that. Sorry, I got to ranting here, but.....at the end of the day in this day in time, does it really matter???
What we need is a Taxpayers Union. Let all us taxpayers go on strike. Why not?
waste of money. so now they've lost money.
does anyone know which department increased their budget by 50%?
you guessed it. sheriffs department.
insurance did not change and the ladder truck didn't make a hill of beans difference.
you may can get away with throwing out that bs to other folks but you won't with me.
it was and is a waste of money that the taxpayers will have to support for as long as the county owns it.
and it doesn't matter if you have a thousand trucks. the houses will still burn to the point of being a total loss.
but even if they have "only" spent 13,000, we just had a decision by the people on the splost and it was NO!!! so in either case, it is a waste of the taxpayer's money.
The fire dept is there to protect the other peoples houses from catching fire.
Let the sheriff use the drug money to finance his department instead of his own private issues.
The sheriffs office budget has shot up close to 1000 percent since he has taken office.
Does no one in this county have what it takes to voice an opposing voice to Himler.
Oh well!
Insuring yourself only
That means making insurance optional if your vehicle is paid for.
Your insurance covers your vehicle you get hurt your own insurance pays for you just like medical insurance.
When insurance is optional the rates go way down.
If you dont have insurance and your in a wreck you dont get you vehicle fixed
FBT, I can respectfully tell you that my rating did go down to a 6 from a 9, and my premium did too. Of course, I had to call the insurance company and demand they investigate why they still had my property rated a 9. They sure do love those higher premiums.
Don't expect your insurance company to automatically reduce your rating, though. You'll have to call them and make them do it, IF your property falls inside one of the new rating zones.
