Deep in the crawl space of the 1895 Pike County courthouse is a tangle of wiring that defies description. Phone cable, electric wires and other “lines” – both active and disconnected – form a complex spider web above the dirt floor and the many sets of pipes for water, heating and air conditioning.
A tangle of wires under the courthouse lobby.

Must be a slow time for news.
Somebody must be fishing for work?
i think it's time to send ol' don down to his buddy al's place. they can reminisce about inventing the internet and all this global warming we are experiencing.
the reason the people voted against the splost last go-round was they are tired of their taxes going up and up and up while they see more and more waste.
if the remaining commissioners resign and allow us to have a special election in the spring that includes the splost and their commission seats, then i would be all for the splost.
..."bat invested"
That is the problem Paisano! Pike County seems to have invested in "bat futures" instead of GOLD futures! Bat Investing in hopes unstable guano prices will rise is a very sensitive investment in today's commodity market. The Pike County BOC and their cabal of underlings seem to have the required business savvy to direct such SMELLY investments as evidenced by their past performances. Phew!
Perhaps you meant to write, "bat infested". If so, that problem can be rectified by Ol' Billy The Exterminator @ 318-965-5357. Perhaps Pike County could pick up mega bucks if the courthouse is chosen by A&E TV for Billy to rid it of bats and vermin.
Billy won't be able to exterminate the Pike County political vermin. That job must be accomplished with "smart" voting. The dumba** voters who keep electing the same Crony Brothers need to be encouraged to take a voting holiday next election.

maybe you should have spayed your son. or even better, yourself.
you keep on keeping on, cuz.
i look for ways to handle problems myself. i take personal responsibility for my animals and quite frankly anyone's animals that come on my property.
you on the other hand look for ways to get the government to take care of your problems. your son gets a girl pregnant and they go on assistance. you get what some would consider a minor disability and you are waiting on your check. you don't want to pay your bills so you get the government to pay them for you at the expense of other tax payers. not only do you do these things, but you brag about them as if it's a good thing.
it really boils down to being responsible for yourself and your own family. i wouldn't dream of asking the government to take care of me or mine.
It is on the historic registry so they would be required to keep it as it is but would be allowed to update the wiring and bring the building up to code. I think it would make a nice office building for a local law firm.
Then, we could use the money to start a new judicial complex without burdening the taxpayer.
Hey Dave! It's been a long time my pal. You present very good suggestions.
It's my thinking that some of the more successful law firms in Zeb like Chandler, Morton, Brown, etal would not prefer to do "lowyer bidness" from the courthouse location because their Piker clients have worn deep paths to their doors for generations and those trails may become lost in the many Pike County "blizzards".
Having never had a reason to enter the big red building, I am aware rumors abound the building emits noxious smells akin to deer coolers, damp caves, poorly ventilated animal shelters and on hot August days the smells have been described like those wafting from the gut room of a Mississippi chicken processing plant. I don't know.
There are many legal minds up in Atlanta who would appreciate a chance to relocate their practices from the odoriferous Fulton County citified air and start anew by inhaling "improved" Pike County countrified air. Aaaah!..aah!..whoosh!
I will place a call to J. Brown up in Atlanta and see if he will be interested in moving some "real" legal minds to Pike County. Ol' J will take care of any 'Historic Register' problems in the 'preferred Pike County way' to do business. He will bring a trunk full of $$ CASH $$ in brown grocery bags to be distributed as needed.
BTW: Dave, I'm available to provide expert advice if you make a run for BOC.

'your pal on the square'
maybe one of those lawyers in pike who've gotten rich in the place will buy it.
i see also that you bought the lie that GM is paying back with interest.
How about the obvious, because it is the County Court house, and is still being used.
Building a new one is a ridiculous idea.
-Fix that first.
The question is, will it serve the need for years to come?
We need to seek grant money and fix what we have first. Then we can consider adding additional offices. One thing I've noticed is that the old High School that was purchased and remodeled by Walker Chandler is vacant. That might make a good purchase and a nice place to relocate some of the county offices.
The only other option is to hope it catches fire and burns to the ground. Cause the Historical People will never let you tear it down.

yes. it is difficult to find work in your position and i genuinely feel for you. there is a state agency that i worked for as a consultant in the past that helps people in your position train for a new job that takes into account your disabilities. they are very good at what they do and will help you find work that fits your abilities and even provide education and training for that new position:
