An early morning fire at 780 Old Lifsey Springs Rd. completely destroyed the old Lifsey Springs schoolhouse. On Nov. 12 at 2:44 a.m., Engine 3 from the Lifsey Springs fire station responded to the scene within four minutes of the 911 call.

Went past there that pm and the dog was in a cage,no one around.
Dog saves my life, probly take him with me!
But we know people in Pike don't care about dogs.
I am sorry for the young man's loss and I bet Rosalee King has some fantastic school stories.
But, I feel it incumbent for this simple uneducated blogger to rise to your staff writer's defense. In the article's context, Dotson is an acceptable usage of the proper noun, Dachsund. Dotson has become the less formal and somewhat preferred way to describe Dachsunds in today's magazine and newspaper offerings.
If the blogging troglodytes lacking knowledge of members of the Canidae family possessed one iota of "dawg" sense, they would know that Dotson is INTERCHANGEABLE with Dachsund in a literary setting.
Realizing there are many hard headed non-believing bloggers submitting commentaries to the PCJR, I suggest they GOOGLE "dotson dogs" to be further enlightened and apologize to article writer Rachel McDaniel for intimating she should use a spell checker. Hmppf! Woof! Woof!
BTW: How 'bout reinserting 'Dachsund' with the original intended 'Dotson'. It fits better.

Thank you PCJR! That was a necessary correction from Pike County's TRUE local news source. Thank you for reinserting Dotson as that particular subjective noun STANDS out and created much discussion proving it was the correct usage for the well written burned schoolhouse article.
Now that the article is once again complete, we can put aside this gimcrackery and pray all turns out well for the Dotson's owner.
My friend, Harold Gazete, is skeptical that '#4 Professional Journalist' is really a professional since the Pro "opened mouth and inserted keyboard" without verifying Dachsund vs Dotson. A true amateur!...tch...tch...

Job ? I feel that I would be over qualified for the volunteer position of fire chief. And considering the current applicants qualifications the counties standards are at a minimal to say the least.

Here's a quote from a distinguished President that applies perfectly to you both...

You both talk the talk but that's about it. Armchair quarterbacks like you two have always been and will always be around, but you're nothing but methane gas with legs. Swig another beer, light another fart, and waddle out onto your front porch to relieve yourself while those of us that are "in the arena" make another play for you to critique from your porcelain thrones while utilizing your vast banks of knowledge and experience in the field of public safety. Even if you have been employed in the field you can't be counted as worthy of the job because no one but the dregs would constantly criticize without offering to lend a hand or help to make improvements. Enough said.
Bottom line is I love that Pike is a rural country. And if you want a full time fire department and upgrades to some many other county things then you are going to have to bring in more development to fund these things or raise your taxes a bunch something that many do not want.
So it is what it is.
What would be nice right now would be if at least Pike County could man so many firestations at least with one fulltime firefighter 24/7 that way at least you could possibly get the apparatus there quicker and have is set up and waiting on volunteers to arrive. Also it would be nice if these paid firefighters were EMTS who were paid so at least the basics EMT stuff could be done until the Ambulance or Paramedics arrive.
Nope I dont know if I am still friends with the current Pike County Fire Chief I have not talked to him in a year but I do remember asking him over a year ago what is the main problem with all these structures burning to the ground. He said number one the people wait to late to call 911 and then the citizens are I dont know the right word but they are at the Mercy of which VOLUNTEER firefighters are nearby when a call comes out. Sometimes you have way too many but many times not enough. They all have regular jobs and volunteer out of a passion to help and they love doing their jobs.
I do still think sitting back and looking at a lot of the stuff the Pike Country Fire Chief has done that many of you dont realize, Upgrades/Grants/Hiring as many qualified personel he could he is a great deal at 18,000 a year no matter what all the naysayers say.
Yep I am a career FF/EMT and nope I dont volunteer due to I dont think I can make the required committments due to other obligations when I am not a my regular job.

There are no "Federal Laws that govern interior FF tactics. You need to go to Forsyth and take some (a bunch) of classes.
So IDIOT who thinks you know it all read this.
Federal rules that require firefighters who enter burning buildings to do so with a partner while two other firefighters are outside to rescue them if anything goes wrong are nearly a decade old now, and area fire chiefs say the requirement has saved lives.
“People had to die for the rules to change,” Etna Fire Chief Walter Gibbons, a 20-year veteran firefighter, said recently. “There was a lot of loss of life because of lack of crews. It provides some protections for [firefighters] who risk their lives.”
The federal Occupational Safety and Health Administration mandate, dubbed the “two-in two-out law,” requires firefighters who enter a burning building to do so in pairs wearing self-contained breathing apparatus, or SCBAs, and that another team of two firefighters track them to ensure they are safe.
The rules can be disregarded if a resident is believed to be inside a burning house.
atmosphere is assumed to be IDLH and paragraph 29 CFR 1910.134(g)(4) [two-in/two-out]
applies.” OSHA defines interior structural fire fighting “as the physical activity of fire
suppression, rescue or both inside of buildings or enclosed structures which are involved in
a fire situation beyond the incipient stage.” OSHA further defines an incipient stage fire in
29 CFR 1910.155(c)(26) as a “fire which is in the initial or beginning stage and which can be
controlled or extinguished by portable fire extinguishers, Class II standpipe or small hose
systems without the need for protective clothing or breathing apparatus.” Any structural fire
beyond incipient stage is considered to be an IDLH atmosphere by OSHA.

So to get back to you question, "Where in the Constitution does it talk about firefighters?" the answer is no where. Therefore the federal government should not in anyway, shape or form be involved at all with firefighters, police, schools or any other service a state or local provides. Why? Because the constitution does not specifically give the federal government any power or jurisdiction over a fire department, police department, education etc. But because a fire department is not mentioned in the constitution, a state can have a fire department, because by having a fire department, it does not take away a right we have as American citizens.
I think that is the basic problem we have in the USA. People do not understand that basic difference between the federal government and the individual states. Basically America was structured to have a weak federal government, governing independent nation states. The federal governments only powers are basically making sure a state does not infringe on a right the constitution grants us as citizens, protecting the states from foreign invasion, having a post office, count heads every 10 years, have a universal monetary system, and guarantee a state will freely trade with any other state. That is it, nothing more. But over the last 70 years, the role of the federal government has grown so much, it involves itself with everything, and 70 years of this put us in the position we are in now, on the verge on bankruptcy
The following is taken from Title 29, Sec. 1910.134 of the Code of Federal Regulations:
(4) Procedures for interior structural firefighting. In addition to
the requirements set forth under paragraph (g)(3), in interior structural
fires, the employer shall ensure that:
(i) At least two employees enter the IDLH atmosphere and remain
in visual or voice contact with one another at all times;
(ii) At least two employees are located outside the IDLH atmosphere;
and
(iii) All employees engaged in interior structural firefighting use
SCBAs.
So, I have some needed qualifying information. Without it, the Hon. Mr. Geiger shouldn't even let you blow off steam. No one should have to read your vitriol.
How many years of experience do you have as a fire professional? For how long have you served as a volunteer with a department? How many hours and/or certifications do you hold in incident command, supervision, management, or applicable disciplines? How many years/months experience in supervising others? How many years/months do you have at the grade of "chief"? Do you have an advanced degree from an accredited college or university? Other information on your expertise is also welcome.
Anyone can Google "two in, two out." You have no more experience or credentials to run a professional ball team or multinational corporation, let alone a fine department such as Pike County Emergency Services. Perhaps you should stay in the stands and cheer for the home team.

Fire chief Henderson resigns from Clayton County
Pike County fire chief Danny Henderson retired from his full time position in Clayton County after being demoted from lieutenant to firefighter III for failing to respond to a medical call.
According to Clayton fire and emergency services chief of staff Alex S. Cohilas, Henderson’s action Jan. 8 was a direct violation of civil service rules, Clayton fire and emergency employee manual rules and procedure manual policy.
“His actions that day completely contradict the mission statement of our department,” said Cohilas in the final determination memorandum. “A fire lieutenant has no authority to set departmental policy, practice or procedure, much less supplant them with a personal and flawed belief system.”
Henderson was issued a notice of intent of disciplinary action Feb. 8 and he submitted a letter of resignation effective immediately Feb. 10.
“In closing, I find Lt. Henderson’s response to the facts and allegations weak and unconvincing. Lt. Henderson’s personal beliefs became manifest through his action. That action constituted an act of rebellion against department policy, practice and procedure,” wrote Cohilas. “I find him unfit to fill any leadership billet within our department and have determined to reduce him in rank to firefighter III.”
The memorandum said Clayton has dispatched engines to medical calls for more than three decades.
“Our department is thoroughly cross trained and equipped to handle all manner of emergencies, medical or otherwise,” it read. “Our department exists for no other purpose in this world, than to respond to people in need in the shortest time possible.

If your idea of blogging is to just turn EVERY blog on this site into a fight or an insult, why not set up a Pike County blog page where you can all go and bash every little thing that goes on in our town, our county, and our nation! It can be called "Pi$$ed Off in Pike" and the motto could be, "A place to complain and argue about everything under the sun. From the way the wind blows to the burned out bulb of a light post, all topics will be debated, and most likely, will change topics throughout the post. Only rude and insulting blogs will be accepted and to hell with those who have nice things to say!"

I explained what happened, and that I wanted to report it. When I give them my address and told them my phone was not working and I was at a neighbors. I was informed they would not send a deputy out because I was not home. I told them I would be home in 10 to 15 minutes.
I came home and worked on my phone lines and different phones till 2 hours later I finally got a dial tone. I had been home for 2 hours waiting on the deputy. I called them back and in about 15-20 minutes one came.
I wrote a friend telling her what happened and made a joke saying, " I hope the fire dept. doesn't follow that policy. I can hear it now. Let it burn, They don't even have a phone!"
I guess if someone was going to rob or harm you it's OK as long as they get the phone took care of first.

Firebug-1 (out)
Looks like a lot of times there are many ASSumptions and not facts. Even though I saw the facts about 2 in and 2 out for OSHA and NFPA the way I understand it is that each department elects to be under NFPA or OSHA standards and well the question is Does PCFD follow and abide by OSHA and NFPA regulations or do they not. Seems to be with trying to get all these ISO ratings to lower your insurance that they would be under these self imposed regulations? Correct? I really dont know but since so many of you are experts I figured you all would know this?
I see the stuff about why the Chief Resigned or was fired from CCFD but nobody seems to have the exact facts just hearsay. I did some checking around and once again just hearsay. Was he was in Ladder Truck and another engine was fairly close by and he was in heavy traffic and he felt by the time he got turned around that the other engine would have clearly got there before the unit he was in? Hearsay only. ? I really dont know just what I heard.
But until we can get some more FullTime Firefighters manning some of these stations things are going to burn down. Just the way it is. Hydrants are farther apart meaning water has to be shuttled etc and for you experts you know this.
And come on experts, you know and I know unless you are sure someone is in the house, personel safety is a priority, they can always rebuild property they can not repair lost lives.
So do you all want more development in Pike County to have a full time department or what other answers do you have or want. Do you raise our taxes?
I never would have thought public services would be distributed depending on whether you have a working phone or not!
Only in Pike County! Or Mayberry!
Wait! Andy did help the Darlin family, Rafe Hollister, and took care of Ernest T. Bass and they didn't have phones. Ernest T. was more a trouble maker than a citizen.
Now I think of it Andy was the Sheriff, and not Barney Fife!
It makes me wonder why we have 30 something patrol cars, a paid Volunteer Fire Chief, Several new Fire Trucks and equipment, and a new added tax called a fire fee on our tax bills.
Not long ago I heard 3 patrol cars engines locked up due to lack of oil.
Henderson is looking for a job, he wants a safety net and the ex-BOC & CM that elected to place him in his position are gone, possibly in part by their own incompetence. Either way we have a demoted/quitter unqualified chief that we are stuck with until he really screws up. That too, will come at the expense of the Pike County taxpayers, sooner or later.
I spoke with a Clayton Lt. whom was privy to the situation with chief and he stated that it was true. He kind of felt bad for Danny because he wasted 22.5 years but he did agree with the course of action taken. He also stated there were other indiscretions in Danny’s employment history that played a part in his demotion. He too says either way PC needs a real chief.
Where ever there is smoke there is fire, and this will haunt the chief as long as he is chief. We the real PCVFF’s that have been here from the inception are true non-paid volunteers. We are real Pike County taxpayers, citizens, neighbors that have a true love for helping, unlike the poser chief that couldn’t make it and as a fireman.
Your niavete' is understandable if you have never been in a management position. Employers often make HR errors through poor judgment and/or a lack of knowledge of the law - especially government employers. Of course, unless challenged they can do as they please and often an employee is better off walking away if they cannot prove wrongdoing. I personally have experienced the threat of retaliatory demotion from a middle management position and can assure you from my own experience that when an employer's legal department is made aware of the misjudgment through legal channels the backpedaling is often quite rapid.
I cannot comment on the Clayton County issue from first-hand knowledge (nor can you - only hearsay), but if your own description of the situation - "I spoke with a Clayton Lt. whom was privy to the situation with chief and he stated that it was true" - is accurate, that statement in itself shows a lack of HR and legal savvy as well as incompetence by by CCFD's administration. If one employee has first hand knowledge of another employee's disciplinary action the legal and HR mistakes illustrate that either the CCFD Chief is incompetent or he has no control over leaks by his subordinates. Either way, the CCFD Chief's judgment is suspect.

History is forgiving, lesson learned by many is tell the truth and be a man. Otherwise stick to your half baked lame stories that you want sympathy from. I speak for many in the PCES and I speak truthfully, Henderson is a poor excuse of a leader that will not tell the truth about his past and his respect is nil.
I guess this will make Henderson re-evaluate investigating who the Firebug is. Sounds like the department is in disarray and mutiny is coming……..Ar-Ar
