County considers SPLOST vote in March

County manager Bill Sawyer briefly mentioned the board of commissioner’s plan to move forward with a Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax referendum in 2011.

Copy and paste my most and mark the date. This SPLOST will not pass. I have a great track record for calling correct elections & spost. Although I admit I thought H. Reid was going to fall but, I was wrong. Anyways, this splost will fail.

Just say NO to more taxes. We are not a vacation city for all the visitors to pay SPLOST! We wind up doing it ourselves. Get it right Bill Sawyer! We have to go to Griffin even for a Big Mac.

Here we go!! Bill Sawyer, who does not live in Pike County needs to keep his mouth shut. These clowns on the BOC need another wake up call. Joy honey, no one from other places comes to Pike County to spend money!!! It's us that will be paying it. Taxpayers, go to the tax accessors web site and key in Joy's name. Look at all the land conservation use parcels she has. Big land owners need to pay their fair share, that's who needs to pay more taxes.

People are very tired of paying any tax regardless of how much it is or its purpose. I also believe the track history of our local officials spending habits has us taxpayers very nervous too.

actually chucky, small tracts of land say in a subdivision or just a 2 acre tract cost the county more money in services than large tracts. so I say anyone with less than 10 acres should have their taxes quadrupled, quintupled or even more.

land conservation usage as I am sure joy complies with keeps the cost of services lower to that property by preventing use that would require attention by fire, police, water, etc.

I think this one will pass since it does not carry all the fluff with it. Most of the comments concerning the last effort were that if it was only for the Courthouse renovation and the roads, it would have passed.

I don't like SPLOST, but a lot more than you'd think at first glance pay sales tax in Pike.

Many locals eat at our local establishments, shop at Dollar General, Family Dollar, FreshWay, buy gas at our local gas stations, etc. They pay sales tax.

Many non-Pike Countians come into Pike to eat at Barnstormer's Grill or Papa Willie's in Williamson. Many come in to eat at the Concord Cafe. Students jam the local eateries after every football game. They all pay sales tax.

Have you seen the number of people at the sports complex? They usually pick something up locally to take home to eat, or eat someplace in Zebulon. They pay sales tax.

Drive through Zebulon any Friday evening and take a good look around. All those people eating out are paying sales tax. All those people buying groceries, and there are a lot of them, are paying taxes. All those cars jamming the gas pumps are paying taxes.

I don't think any tax increase will fly.....we didn't even vote yes for an increase on tags for trauma hospitals..we are TIRED of our tax dollars being wasted and do not want to pay anything extra for anything!!!! Do I need to spell that out in all caps!!!

Let me say it this way..NEWSFLASH. I think the tide is turning...it has taken America coming to her knees but I think most people are awake now...if you do not spend the tax dollars you already receive from us wisely....we will vote you out of office! PS..Show us first that you can live within your budget like all of us have to do and then maybe ask us for more!

that information comes directly from the sheriffs office comparing the number of 911 calls for small tracts of land vs large. please, feel free to go and check for yourself.

the reason we have to have three (3) police officers on duty at all times is so they can cover the 911 calls from subdivisions.

we used to have one (1) on duty at a time before all the subdivisions.

While you are at ask Mr. Sawyer and the BOC how they can keep wasting the taxpayer's money.

When "them foreigners are apassin' through" it is generally on state funded GDOT maintained highways. They will be wearing out the roads in Pike County either way...why not let them help pay? Pay for it now, or pay for it later "no SPLOSTers", either way you're going to pay for it. A calm, logical examination of the issue can only lead to the conclusion that this is the best option available to maintain our roads and perform necessary maintenance to our Courthouse. To put it in easy-to-understand terms, it's like maintenance on your car or home...if you put it off it will cost MORE later. Throwing more "no SPLOST" temper tantrums are only going to cost all of us more in the long run.

20,000 cars per day? Put up 2 toll booths, one north and one south, exempt all Pike residents. Name them the JC Joy Cris Collins Toll Booths. Problem solved, no more SPLOSTS.

I would like to know how much money could be taken in by speeding tickets.People speeding around I dont ever see where tickets are given. I have even seen on here where some are you brag about not geting one when you said you should have.

SPLOST is the only way to go. Let all the visitors pay for our projects. Tourism in our county is a major business, the mud boggers, the farmers market, tractor pulls and swine whistlers. All yous peoples gets together and votes it in this March. IT WILL PASS THIS TIME.

You can't even sell (us) the PC citizens on the fact your boy (chief) Henderson is a positive for the county, how in the world do you expect us to believe that the SPLOST is a great thing? I am of the opinion the voters here in Pike and nation wide are tired of any tax. That includes the local fire tax as well.

It is time for you and the others that are wearing blinders to "SEE" the bigger picture. The American dollars has been taxed to death and isn't worth the papaer it is printed on.

I will bet the farm and the ducks in the pond the SPLOST will ot pass, and when it doesn't the BOC should realize we are fed up with any tax, regardless.

don collins was on teen challenge ban wagon and we all know that it was one of the biggest mistakes in pikes history. this splost will be another. hope he is sent packing before he can do much more damage to pike and citizens of pike.

what really ticks me off is that the BOC is going to waste 20-30,000 of the taxpayers dollars just so that they can have another negative vote on the splost.

they are determined to create a new judicial complex despite the peoples wishes.

we've removed two, the other three need to go with the next vote.

AND LISTEN UP THE TWO NEW BOC MEMBERS. IF YOU ARE NO BETTER, YOU WILL BE GONE TOO.

I am glad. It is good to know I can travel through an intersection in Pike County safely without having to worry about folks not stopping properly. As a motorcyclist I think they should raise it to $400.

Seriously do people actually think that we have alot of out of towners spending money in Pike County. A sales tax increase will mostly fall on Pike County residents....What do we have in Pike that most of the surrounding counties don't have that people are running in to spend money?

If the voters would attended meetings like I do (all of them) then they would understand SPLOST and not have voted it down. So the BOC is going to spend $30,000, wes will make it up over the 5 year period. Yous peoples just do not understand how government works on national or local levels. SPLOST WILL PASS THIS TIME.

I disagree, if the two new ones don't step up and make Pike better they will be gone too!. There is more to being a good steward of a government and a community than to stop spending or lower taxes.
