When I was growing up here, there were nearly as many blacks as whites in Pike County, its only been in recent years that the population has changed. My best friend growing up was black.
Race relations here in Pike County were extremely good when I was growing up here and I find it very difficult to believe that it got better after "all those hangings". People put up BS just to have something to say. If you can prove your point or even give me a list of people who have been hung here, the please do.

Read that sentence real slow and tell me just what it tells you. It tells you exactly how much of this crime is going on, doesn't it? Have you found all the meth labs? Have you found all the dope pushers? Have you found all the thieves? Have you found all the murderers? Have you found all the illegal immigrants? Hell no, and you have not found all the child molesters either. While you are rocking and rolling on this one just keep in mind that percentage wise many children are being molested. I also do not hold an elected position and I do not associate with any local officials for too many have let me and close acquaintances down with regard to local criminal behaviors being overlooked.
And yes, the right family names will get you off the hook for child molestation charges. Also, the right DA friend will get you paroled early despite child molestation charges.

You contradict yourself. You make it sound like quite a few people are for child molestation. If the investigation and incarceration of their offenders is "rockin and rollin", it sounds like a lot of people already do not see having sex with children wrong. But you say that society is not accepting the act of child molestation. And you can back that up by showing me that sex crimes against children are going down every year? That is the true way to measure societies acceptance on the issue. The numbers speak for themselves and it is not looking good. This countries sex crimes against children are at an all time high. And it is getting worse. Maybe this information will help you on your pretend mission against pedophiles.

If you want to marry a same-sex partner, fine. You find a 'church' who's willing to perform a gay marriage ceremony and have at it or you have a private pledge ceremony with family and friends by yourselves. Same thing for a straight couple. Beyond that, if you want your assets to go to your 'spouse' when you pass away; if you want a living will, or if you want to convey to your pledged partner certain powers and rights over your person and property, you need to povide for those priviledges legally and separately from your commitment to your partner.
Bottom line: Marriage is a covenent between a man and a woman before an holy God- which, by the way, straight people haven't taken very seriously. The Judeo-Christian texts are very clear that a same-sex union is not acceptable to Him- nor is adultery or divorce outside a very few conditions.
Therefore, a government-sanctioned, homosexual "marriage" is as much an infringement on a Christian's "right" to separation of church and state as government prohibition of a same-sex union would be to a gay person. If you're going to plea sensitivity, then be sensitive to everyone.
Unfortunately, child molestation is a crime that has been around since the beginning of time. The only difference is that now, victims feel a little more free to talk about it. I was blessed with good, loving parents, but I had two friends who were not so lucky. One was from a very wealthy, prominent family. She was abused from eight to sixteen and decided to tell when she learned her father, a bank president, began to molest her six year-old sister. When she told me, I advised her to seek help from the school counsellor and went with her to her appointment. The father was arrested and tried. He lost his job at the bank and was convicted on multiple counts, but my friend was ostracized by her family. Her own mother had suspicions, but turned a blind eye because she enjoyed her lifestyle and high income. The mother blamed the two girls- yes, blamed them, two girls ages six and sixteen- for 'destroying' their family. I wouldn't have believed it had I not witnessed the conversation myself.
Point is, just as there are lies of commission and omission, there are different kinds of abuse. The mother deserved to serve every bit of time the father served right along with him.
Justice is getting exactly what you deserve. Devine grace is forgiveness for what you truly deserve. In Christianity, the concept of devine grace is only applicable when a person who has sinned is truly regretful for his or her behavior, repents of their wrong-doing, and changes his or her behavior as a result.
Justice is for society. Grace is for the church. I believe in both.
Although I cannot speak for anyone else, I'm a Christian. I returned to the God of my childhood after having read the Qur'an, studied Buddism, Hinduism, Judaism and Wicca. I had to know in my heart why I believed what I believe and the only way to return to that authentic faith for me, was to know about the other possibilities.
Everyone must come to his own conclusion. Don't criticize me for mine and don't come running to me when, in eternity, you find out you were the one who was wrong. Ditto, here. I own my choice. Everyone should own theirs, but not criticize when people make different ones.
I don't condemn homosexuals- that's way above my pay grade. If you want somebody to believe what you believe, you're not going to beat them into submission. I will love them for who they are, not what they do. It will not be the arbitor of why I choose them for my friends, but I do not pretend to accept or approve of a behavior I believe is not right. Just as you and I don't quite agree on everything, I am a better, more enlightened person to have your viewpoint in my life. We can accept people for who they are, not what they do, and we can learn from them even though we don't agree with everything they do. Most all parents know that.
You're not a witch, ST. Don't legitimize the mindless comments that fly around here, because words are less than cheap- they are free.
I personally believe that by earthly standards there will be some witches in Heaven and some pastors in Hell.

I am not thin-skinned at all and tend to find the humorous side when possible. I will probably be the bitchiest witch in Heaven...but come sit at our table. It will be the table with the laughter and smiles. We will be easy to spot. God will probably hang around us a lot. He does also have a sense of humor and a thick skin. He must, look at all the stuff that is blamed on him. You may be in that sorting line a long time before (if) you make it through those Pearly Gates, there are a lot of Anonoymous and derivatives thereof that Saint Peter must sort out. I am starting to get sick to my stomach so I will stop there. You and elcie can treat these folks with all the dignity and respect you wish. Heck, half of them probably go to your church. The rest of the world will do there best to make sure they get what they really deserve. And respect and dignity is now where on our list.
We should all be talking to our children more to make sure that they know what to look for and make sure they know why behavior such as this is unacceptable.
Some pro-active policing would help, but local agencies do not seem to be into that sort of thing unless it's for narcotics.

What can you say about an educated, intelligent man — a college professor, no less — who produces child porn?
You could try "dumbfounded" or "disgusted," but, really, there are no words. There are barely any syllables.
I wish I could say 34-year-old Justin Bradley May — now ex-professor of economics at the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg — was an anomaly, but my e-mailbox says otherwise.
The U.S. Attorney's Office routinely sends press releases of federal crimes to the media, and the number of local men indicted on, admitting to or sentenced for engaging in child rape, or trading such images, would curdle your stomach.
In fact, I'd intended to go through those releases, from the professor on back, and tick them off for readers. I couldn't get further than August. You can explore a sewer all you want — it's still a sewer.
May pleaded guilty Monday to a single count of producing child porn. He admitted he enticed a 13-year-old girl in Ohio to take photos of her genitals via her cell phone camera and send them to him. He told her she could get real photos in exchange for anal or oral sex with a "professional photographer."
May was nabbed as part of the Justice Department's "Project Safe Childhood" — a strategic effort combining law enforcement, community action and public awareness to combat child exploitation.
Essentially, the feds are as tired of the rocketing increase in children being sexually abused, raped and trafficked as the rest of us.
In the last four years, they've filed 8,464 Project Safe Childhood cases against 8,637 defendants. In our district, they've filed 284 cases against 296 defendants.
Who are these defendants? As the U.S. Attorney's Office says, they're "from all walks of life, including teachers, professors, police officers, coaches, and servicemen."
Let's meet a few:
Jeffrey Boyd Ramsey, 49, of Hampton. Indicted Aug. 10 on charges he had a minor under his control engage in sexually explicit conduct so he could record it. He's accused of possessing many more similar images and videos of child porn.
John Eric Ewing, 39, of Norfolk. Sentenced Aug. 16 to 121/2 years for the attempted receipt of child pornography. He was identified through payment records linked to a known child porn website. Feds say he had more than 7,500 images of child rape.
Even among perverts, though, Ewing stands out. Before he was indicted on July 23, 2008, he rabbited. Later that month, he kidnapped and raped a woman at a Las Vegas hotel. He pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 30 years to life. Once he serves the state time, he'll face the federal.
Jeffrey Lee Brackett, 56, of Newport News. Sentenced to 10 years on Aug. 16 for transporting child porn. Images showed prepubescent kids in sex acts with adults.
James A. Metcalf, 35, of Virginia Beach. A former active-duty chief petty officer in the U.S. Navy who pleaded guilty Aug. 18 to possessing child porn. More victims under the age of 12, some of them victims listed in a database at the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.
Thomas Scott Biers Jr., 25, of Williamsburg. Sentenced Aug. 23 to 16 years for receiving child porn — more images of prepubescent children being raped by adults. Plus depictions of sadism and masochism involving children.
But the real freak among freaks? Alan Paul Strieper, 25, of Virginia Beach. Sentenced Sept. 7 to 35 years for attempted enticement and child porn. Strieper the Creeper chatted online about his desire to kidnap, rape and murder a child as young as a newborn. He elicited a chat buddy as an accomplice — but who was actually an undercover agent.
When Strieper was arrested, he already had duct tape, bleach, latex gloves and a red Elmo doll in his trunk. Note the attention to detail. Strieper also had a "substantial amount" of child porn on his computer, some of violent rape.
Which brings us full circle. You might wonder if marinating in an acid bath of child porn is what creates a Strieper, or if a Strieper will out, no matter what. Frankly, who cares?
As far as I'm concerned, the Striepers, the Ewings, the Metcalfs, the Mays can all be tarred with the same brush. Stripped of individuality and dismissed without thought or regret. Dehumanized.
