I saw a group of pretty young girls last week.

Just released from the confines of high school for the summer, they were sashaying down the street in short shorts and tank tops.

They reminded me of my friend.

the check getters get FREE Housing, FREE Medical, FREE Food.
The people being successful have mortgages, medicl insurance, and buy their groceries this all comes out of a WORKING MANS PAY EACH WEEK
OR EACH MONTH. THE END!

this is the best thing i have seen in the paper in a long time. i had a child in high school and it is hard but at the same time i have a good job and medical insurance. it feels good to be able to do that and not have to worry if a check from the state is coming that month or groceries. i know it can be done.

This is such a great article! Just yesterday I was thinking about this. I am married with a child and we both work very hard for what we have. We do not expect anything to be handed to us. As long as the "check getters" continue to receive their checks, the problem will not end. There is no incentitive to do the right thing... so why would they?

The middle class people are the biggest suckers. Robbed by the rich and brainwashed into blaming the poor. Banks, insurance, oil and coal companies upset me much more than the person living the "good life" off of the government check in a 2 bedroom shack.

My daughter is a single mother with a job. She could not get any help with her health care or any kind of assistance other than food stamps. The child got wellcare. She made minimum wage. five weeks ago she had a horrific auto accident that requied life flight to Grady Hospital for medical help. She now has no income no car and she must wait for the state to approve her for assistance. Meanwhile she has to praticularly beg for help with her rent and utilities. She has to find a ride to Grady. I am on social security so have no extra for her. My car is not capable of taking her to Atlanta. So basically she has nothing and I cannot help. So its wait wait wait. This seems so unfair.

yep, and they get free food, free housing, free medical care, a HUGE car, all while living in that 2 bedroom shack. And most times, they MAKE it a SHACK themselves because they won't take CARE of it. Why not, THEY are not paying for it!!
If it's not a shack, it's gov't housing/apartments. I have seen some on the inside, they are not bad unless/until the ''poor'' people MAKE it bad.

Please elaborate on the connection between being robbed by the rich and blaming the poor for it? The only thing I can come up with is that it's the RICH (the gov't) that is ALLOWING the poor (no, not poor.. SORRY is more like it) to get this money from the middle class.

If someone is TRULY poor and can NOT help it, THOSE are the people that NEED the help, and they are the SAME people who will NOT get it because the RICH (the gov't) is handing it to the SORRY people.

WHY? All I can figure is if the gov't didn't give the money to these sorry people, they would get SUED by them.
Why else doesn't the gov't tell the sorry people to get off their butts and GO TO WORK!!
Can't blame it on 'no jobs'... these people were sorry LONG BEFORE there were no jobs.

very good article and very accurate , now they also get cell phones too can you believe it,they sit back and hope they have premature twins then the money really comes in then... i say lets put a limit on how much they can get say three years thats it, no more till you worked five steady years then you become eligble, then if they worked that long then they would not want to go back down the ladder .

I guarentee that all the white collar executive for places like Enron and White Water and other agencies have exploited and stolen more money from society that any 1,000,000 of these welfare mommas can ever steal. Ivan Boesky stole billions of dollars and he had to stay in a country club "jail" for three year and now he is raising money for MLB. We should go after these cheats just as much as we go after the welfare moms. And by the I think our law makers should have drug tests along with the welfare mamas.

So many people do want everything for nothing. Kids are raised to think that way they see their parents doing it and follow their example. It is also not just girls having babies to get a check either.

I know of someone who was collecting unemployment while working for someone under the table. HIs unemployment ended but he is continuing to do something with the unemployment office so he can get unemployment when the pass the extended benefits. I also know of people who sell their food stamps to other people for .50 on the dollar. I also know people who buy them and have no business using food stamps but they look at it as free food in their pocket because they are only paying for half of the amount thats on the card. Then they look at it as we also get so much more because taxes are taken off.

They all think that this is the way to live. Lets continue to work the system and teach our kids to work the system so we can drive this country farther and farther into debt. Well thats exactly what is wrong with this country and these are the same reasons why we keep having to raise taxes we have to pay for all these people abusing the system.

It frustrates me to hear about all of this because my husband and I are recent college graduates living off of one income and can barely make ends meet with our student loans and other bills. We would never think of doing this yet so many young people don't think twice.

So your a single mom on welfare. WHY are you on welfare? Because you cannot seem to overcome the little down turns in your life? Decided a night of heated romance was more important than fulfilling the education requirements for your future. Or perhaps you chose to marry a deadbeat man....either way only you can break the cycle and overcome the issues that you may perceive as holding you back.

I account a great deal of the welfare issues of today to complacency of both the government and the people taking advantage of the system.

I read all the time, single moms. How do they do that. Single moms should write books, movies and be on the speech circuit. Must be something in the air, water or something they eat. Men are no longer needed to produce human beings.

Shouldn't people have to take a drug test to get this government assistance? I mean i am required to pee in a cup to keep my job. I see 25% of my paycheck being taken for government use. Shouldn't the people laying on their backs and sitting on their butts have to pee in a cup to keep their welfare and food stamps.
And why is it people can get cash back on the EBT cards now? to pay the mortgage? Probably not. To buy more alcohol and drugs? More likely. To pay for the Escalade or BMW? Probably so. and dont forget about the rims, gotsta'have dem dubs dawg.

That's the truth. You can wear a facade and go to church, smile and shake everyone's hand and give to the right people and you can run a hole-in-the-wall narcotic prescription factory, get busted repeatedly and only have to worry about the medical board. You can be a lawyer who murders and dismembers a boy, get secret, night time plea deals, be sentenced to "life in prison" and be released after 7 years to continue your life. Hell, if you are real good, your evidence might even disappear even after being marked as evidence. But if you take a poor black male selling a misdemeanor amount of marijuana on the corner to make money, you know the law would be doing surveillance on him and using every other thing in their arsenal to tear apart his house in order to tack on charges. His name would be on the front page of the paper with a big picture of his face with his little dime bag. People today love their facades.

Some white people get on here complaining about the thug culture but, for goodness sake, it was only a little over one hundred years ago us white people were beating blacks into submission. I think they are dealing pretty well. Maybe a few of us white folks should try imagining what it would be like to have been hung from trees for just looking at a white girl. Heck, whites kidnapped african americans and brought them to the usa. Then whites complain when they are actually allowed to be free and not forced to do the dirty work. We are all human beings and deserve the same justice no matter our race, ethnicity or socio-economic status.

yeah i am going to get off welfare and spend $300,000 to campaign for a $120,000 job in local government so i can get my investment back in contracts and kickbacks. than i can go from being a ho to having my sign in your yard and bumper sticker on your car with my name on it. thanks for your vote!

slavery has been over for nearly 150 years. there are large numbers of successful blacks including: a president, many congressmen and a whole lot of CEO's (some I bet just as crooked as the ones you've mentioned).

I was raised by a single momma on the system but I DONT live on the system I have 3 children that are grown and none of them live on the system. I feel that my mom had no choice though she had 4 children no help couldn't afford daycare so what was she to do. I think every case and every family has to be consider do they desever , do they need , what is the problem so we can help them them not surport them. When we help them they need to be checked on weekly I know people who we the tax payers pay for there daycare and they dont work someone just writes a letter and someone approved it.

Congratulations. I would shake your hand if possible. You should be proud and accept my respect for you and your mothers efforts.

However, this situation does not pertain to your life story, it may contain a chapter or verse but not the whole story.

I speak of the values or ethics that some take for granted in order to cash in on behalf of hard working people. I find their kind to be unworthy of the respect given to working folk.

The perception of entitlement projected by some people as they stand amoungst friends bragging of how they fleece the government monthly makes a profound statement to the state of welfare management and governmental affairs.

The whole situation of welfare abuse just makes my blood boil.

No...you should be proud.

It is people like yourself that holds American's in the past. (BTW, if you read White people did not kidnap most of the black people and "force" them into slavery. I KNOW that the people working for DFACS *KNOWS* what is going on and lets it happen. But WHY?? Are they THAT scared of these sorry people ?? See how ingrained prejudice is in our society. I am sure there are plenty of people abusing the system, but you can't lump a whole group of people into the category. Do you every hold the men accountable for all the times they laid down with a woman and helped make these babies? What about the one's who walk away and leave a woman alone raising their kids? Excuse me? It is my fault if I am having to use welfare to survive? THank you Dr. Fat Bass Tard on letting my know that my medical issues which have not allowed me to work in years, is MY fault. Having a chronic debilitating disease which makes getting out of bed a wish instead of reality, it is MY fault!!!!

Not eveyone is on welfare because they want to be. I want to be an independant adult who can support myself and give back to my community, but since I am choosing to be on welfare, what would you suggest I do, so I can quit using the system.

Don't suggest surgeries and stuff, insurance won't pay. Don't tell me to try a different career. I am lucky to be out of bed 2 hours a day.

You just let me know and then maybe the whole world will change!

If you knew anything about the history of slavery you would know that it was the africans that sold their own people into history. Maybe you should go and try to get an education. That's also not what we did. Our ancestors did that, and its been over for a long time. We don't owe them anything. I think it's about time they stopped using that excuse, and walking around like white people owe them something.
Also, it would be very easy for these people to get out of the system. They qualify for all the money they need to go to college, and not have to spend any of their money. It is really the middle class that pays for all the people on welfare.

You are an idiot. Whites did not go to Africa and kidnap blacks. In most cases it was warring tribes, or higher caste tribes, that caught and sold the losing, often lower caste, tribes to slave traders. Many of the traders were themselves black. Others were not American.

If I were black I'd be darn proud my ancestors were slaves so I could be an American. I sure wouldn't run around expecting handouts because of it.

I'm part American Indian. Tell me how terrible you have it as a black person in America and I'll tell you how bad it can really be to BE a native.

dfacs is a business like any other. the more money it needs the more it is funded. i dont believe that they are scared of anybody. the more clients they have the more jobs it creates in dfacs and more funds THEY get. people are so small minded on this blog. welfare, ssi, foodstamps have strict guidelines and make you jump thru hoops to get anything. a lot of people on wefare drink or abuse drugs so every county seems to have its share of crack houses, liquor stores, lottery, and illegal gambling machines to recover most of the money paid out. so dont let the system make your blood boil. the big man ends up with all the money on the end if thats a comfort.

if there weren't so many draining the system, people who truly need help could afford the operations that would make them able bodied. they could afford the necessary help to be educated beyond what public schools can do for them.

I am by no means prejudiced. I am sick and tired of being called just that. I am sick and tired of living in the 21st century and still having to hear about slavery and how oppressed people are when they have never been made to work a day in their damn life. I am sick and tired of having to watch my vocabulary for fear of being called a racist and then being taken to court. That is what i am sick and tired of, that and more. Its not just "black" people. Its everyone. White, Black, Asian, Latino...every race gets assistance and most of the ones who get it does not in any way deserve it. But you know what, they get it and people who work pay for it. Oh well. Its life

I am also sick of being called a cracker and whitey and nothing gets done about it. However, when someone of another race is called black or whatever they call the first lawyer and try and sue someone over calling them a dang name. Geesh get over yourselves and realize the times have changed. The world has changed. There is no legal form of slavery (except marriage!!) Therefore there is no reason to argue and gripe and complain about something you read in history books and didn't live through. I think some of the most respected people are our elderly, who know and lived through some of what happened. They know the truth. Find one one day and ask them what happened and how oppressed they still are. But if you didnt live through it then shut up, grow up, get a job and become a positive part of society like every other normal human...

Again, I am not, nor have I ever been on public assistance. I have a job. I guess the whole argument isn't just about race. I guess it really is a discussion on the subject of bias against those from a lower socio-economic status and if we should choose to be a nation of people who sacrifice to help another or a nation of survival of the fittest. Now, if you go to Africa today, I bet you would see an example of that last concept. Watch out for all those factions at war there though. Think of all the people killing each other because they think they are right. America is about having a place for opportunities. It's about living in a nation where you can come from a shitty family and turn your life around. Everyone has their own purpose here on this earth. You walk down the street everyday and you never know which of these people are angels. Do you even stop to ask of their experiences? Do you even care? Or are you too caught up in what is bothering you and who you can blame for keeping you from living the american dream you've concocted in your head? Look at KKK man's comments where he is mad because he lost the opportunity to have slaves. Those slaves are the one's that afforded his family the opportunity to sit on their behind all those years ago and collect ALL the money while being beaten, raped and hanged. "THEY SHOULD BE GLAD WE BROUGHT THEM TO AMERICA!" Isn't it a shame they had to be introduced the way they were to our great land. I will also add, all ethnicities suffer from prejudices. I have seen some hateful african americans who were rude to all white people just for their skin color. That thought was probably a little prejudiced in itself. How could me or you decide that they are not worthy? Why doesn't someone reach out to help the girls who think it's alright to sleep with people while they are still too young to understand all of the consequences? You get mad, but are you down in the poor neighborhoods trying to educate these kids because their parents won't? Are you trying to talk to these girls? How do you know if, for example, their neighbor isn't a piece of crap who's been raping her for years? What does that girl do because she grew up in a situation like that? What about the boy who grows up being beaten and sees his mother get assaulted regualarly? Hopefully he won't get angry again and shoot the boy like he did the dogs. Who cares for that kid when no one else does? I am sure they will all be ok though. They just need to pull themselves up by their boot straps, right?

WHY do some here APPROVE and SUPPORT the workers in the USA just handing their hard earned money over to the SORRY people??

Now, for people who REALLY need it, that is and should be ok to everyone. BUT, we all know that lots of people who NEED it do NOT get it!

My daughter didn't have to jump thru ANY hoops. They said she couldn't get medicaid becasue she didnt' have kids. I searched the GA DFACS website and didn't find that ANYWHERE in their LAWS. I called them and they give me the runaround, NEVER give me an answer.

In looking thru the laws, they did NOT follow their OWN laws in determining if my daughter qualified for medicaid. Just said 'no', when they were suppose to do a lot more.

I bet the people who are SORRY and who CAN get this help do NOT have to jump thru ANY hoops, either.

I only know of one dfacs situation. It was a volatile domestic violence situation. DFACS was the only agency that held the man accountable for his behavior and protected the child. I am very thankful for their work in that case.

I hear ya! these sorry people called themselves helping when my daughters step sons were being abused by their mothers boyfriend. They let the boys live with her and their father when they reported it. They had to wait a whole year for judge to determine who kids will live with. (I don't know why?)

about 8 months in, DFACS in Griffin *turned* on my daughter and husband (the boys father) and were abusing and harassing them stating that they BETTER agree to the mother getting the boys BACK!

The only thing we figured is that the boyfriend was BLACK and they were scared he would SUE them if they kept the boys away. DFACS NEVER give an answer for their harrasment.

When the court date came, the judge give DFACS a peice of his mind, but it didn't do any good. Thank God my daughter got to keep the boys.

Afraid you'd be wrong.Just a former employee/case worker who has seen some (a lot in fact )unbelievable abuses of families and children by state sponsored social engineering.High turnover rate keeps the worst abusers on the move from county to county with little accountability.As for knowing Jesus I do. I have never smoked pot in my life. I have also been around many pot smokers in my life. I have never seen a violent pot smoker. I have never seen a sad pot smoker. They never drive over eleven miles an hour and they constantly are on the look-out for cops. So I say, "Quit giving out government money....give marijuana. We will have a bunch of happy, laughing, slow-driving, non-violent, folks on the road. If they hit a brick wall at eleven miles an hour, the body bag will not even open. When the law shows up, they will even laugh at the blue light. They think it is a K-Mart Special. Legalize pot and deport illegal immigrants. Now, where did I put my beer?
