UPDATE: JUDGE CALDWELL WAS HOSPITALIZED LATE WEDNESDAY WITH CHEST PAINS.
In an exclusive interview with Mark Winne of WSB TV in Atlanta, former Judge Johnnie L. Caldwell Jr. said he submitted his resignation Monday after being confronted with unprofessional comments he made to female attorneys he knew personally and professionally.
Johnnie L. Caldwell Jr.

Now, if the article had said he traded sexual favors for lighter sentences you might have something. Saying something inappropriate just doesn't cut it.
It never ceases to amaze my how the nameless are so desperate to use a name they know.
All you have to do is use your own name and you will be fine. Everyone has one all you have to do is check the spelling on your birth certificate.
You are a jerk if you think it is ok for a single man to make nasty comments to a married woman.
Don't think the favor trading hasn't gone on. It has. I work within the judicial system and this is just the tip of the iceburg.
The only thing I've said about Mindi and I still maintain is that she was wrong, she was punished and it was time for everyone to let it be.
Sheila, this guy desperately needs a name, can you give him one?
At least republicans have the decency to step down when they've done something wrong.
Hopefully, he will seek help for this and make amends.
So are you saying that he shouldn't have been forced to resign just because of saying innapropriate comments?
I believe there is so much more to it than 'just' making innapropriate comments here. I don't think he would have been forced to resign if this is all he did.
It's very easy to misread signals from women. Now if he has a 15 year history of it as some have said then maybe it is time something is done.

I think this is just another hater who has not guts. Otherwise you would not hide your name.
Sad times for PC.
What are you trying to hide??????
J says something innappropriate to M thinking M is interested in a relationship. Neither one is in a committed relationship. J has done nothing wrong unless 1) M has informed J that his advances are unwelcomed and to stop 2) M works for J.
Otherwise, it is just a mistake between adults and shouldn't be in the paper.
Now as more information is coming to light, I believe there is more to the story. But until there are facts, I will reserve judgement on a man that I have known for many years to be a good upstanding man.
Main Entry: in·ap·pro·pri·ate

not appropriate : unsuitable
By definition it was wrongful. Unsuitable. Single or not, it had no place in that context or there would have been no complaint.
Believe what you want to.
The chest pains this man is having is NOTHING compared with the pain he has caused so many innocent others.
Anyone who think he scratched a hand written note of resignation out of the blue with no talk beforehand of retiring, so he could spend time with his family, wake up! He is rotten to the core.
I expressed it badly.
I guess you must not have a single skeleton in your closet???? Or maybe so........Just a little food for thought.
So many women.........Yeah right.
Not sure what innocent people you are referring to that he has hurt. Please let me know. I would be glad to take this discussion offline.
There have been many women through history who have ruined a man's career with a complaint.
Not saying that is the case here because i've heard from people on here whom I believe to be truthful, but it does happen.
I'm sorry Johnny has brought this on himself and I hope he is able to make amends or at least apologize.
The murderer turned out to be a respected "pillar" of society who had lured the boy to a remote, wooded area. He stabbed the boy and buried the dismembered remains. There were strong rumors of a video tape of the act.
People who discovered the body described the scene as hideous--especially after animals had been there.
The crime apparently did not meet the criteria in the DA's office for a death penalty trial--or any other type trial.
The murderer was able to cut a deal so that he served 7 years. I recall newspaper accounts that the record was sealed because it depicted an especially heinous crime.
Of course, the presiding judge had to agree to all these terms. A judge has control over his courtroom and those in it.
When a person takes on the responsibility of being a DA or judge he or she obligation to serve the people's interest impartially. The accused also have rights.
A judge has a particular responsibility to uphold the dignity of the office. If that responsibility is ignored--even in a crude and childish manner--the respect for the integrity the courts is jeopardized.
The boy has been dead many years and forgotten by most--except his family. The murderer has been free for many years. Mr. Caldwell was able to be elected and re-elected judge.
Just thought I would ask if anyone remembers this?
In closing, all of us need to use better manners and have better morals. We are lowering the standards for our children by our own behaviors. Behave yourself both on and off the job. Don't do drugs, don't break laws--they exist for reasons. Strive to improve daily.
Sheila, if you have good memories, keep them. There has to be a shred of decency in the man somewhere.
Sometimes a person will put up with a lot to keep the bills paid.
It's time for me to move on now and I hope others can do the same.
Guys, when a girl tells you no, she means NO!
Sonny Perdue, for years.
Yes, the hideous murder of a teenage boy was
committed by then Thomaston attorney Edgar Fry,
whose ex-wife has picked up the pieces of her life and has become a leading realtor.
As for the unfournate death of the United Bank
employee, that was never in Caldwell's courtroom, so he did not let anyone go. A
Monroe County Grand Jury ruled it was self
defense. The tragedy occurred as a result of
the victim and others having too much alcohol
to drink. Caldwell was not related to the
accused at the time, and I seriously doubt that
he lived in Caldwell's basement.
Republicans, including Sonny Perdue, for many
years.
Yes, the person who so brutally killed the teenager in Upson County when Johnnie, Jr. was
DA and recommended he only serve seven years was Edgar Fry, also a Thomaston attorney at the
time.
A Monroe County Grand Jury ruled the tragic
death oRob Bennett, the United Bank employee,
self defense. This was a heart=breaking incidnt for all concerned and was the result of impaired judgement as a result of drinking
too much alcohol. The accused was not related
to Caldwell at the time, and I seriously doubt
that he ever lived in his basement.
There are several women in Upson County who are truly surprised to hear that Judge Johnnie
L. Caldwell, Jr., has ever favored a man in a
divorce settlement! One particular firm, especially it's female member, may not receive such preferable treatment in the future. Hopefully, cases will be heard and concluded in one courtroom and not all over the Griffin
Cuircuit at the Judge's convenience in the future, also.
And, yes! Attorneys have been reluctant to
represent certain clients in Judge Caldwell's
courtroom. This should never be the case in
an American judicial system!
While we are examining the actions of the Griffin Crcuit Judges, perhaps we should also
keep in mind the few lawyers whose actions
should be reported to the Ga Bar. f
They work together and cover for one another. In this situation where do you go? Who do you contact?
The more you try to get help the more they do to you.
I grew up around David Rawlins and all his Rawlins family. They are good people. I'm really close to some of them.
Sheila Tolley and I have yet to meet, but she knows to some extent what they have done to try to control me.
When your 100% right there is no back down!
If your a woman or child in the state of Georgia be careful where and who you seek help from. A lot depends on who you are related to.

King Hussein has done nothing of what he promised and in fact has made matters much worse. The working man will pay for the $1.6 trillion deficit that this administration is running. It won't be the "rich". I can assure you they have ways to get around taxes. One of the main ones is investing their money in other countries instead of the USA. When they do this, you will see even fewer jobs here.
Why are you talking about Daddy this way? I have read all of your comments. (and everyone else's) He has always liked you. It's a good thing that he doesn't read this stuff. He would be so sad.............................
Not that it matters, but I remember David having his share of girlfriends in high school and it appears that he's done very well for himself in the years since.
my respect for him will fall faster than obama's approval ratings.
If anyone cares to learn something about his
treatment of some women in divorce cases, especially when their spouse is represented
by a certain Thomaston law firm, read the
comments of Isabel Dominquez, et al, on the
"Barnesville Gazette" website. Here's hoping
both sides will be fairly represented in the
future, and that attorneys in the Griffin Judicial Circuit will not be reluctant to represent any client for fear of any negative
action, real or imagined, towards them by a Circuit Judge.
Secondly, men often mistake women's signals so what I said was a true statement. If that's sexist then I guess I'm guilty.
And finally, there HAVE been women who have simply stated there was wrong doing and ruined a man's career. With no proof other than they said so. You can look up the cases on your own time.
I have a deep respect and admiration for women. My mother was one of the finest women to live here in Pike County and also my role model. I haven't reached her level of patience with people but I hope to get there someday.
Mindi is still an awesome person, and nobody was hurt in either scenario. At least Mindi wasn't in a position of higher expectations, unlike the "honorable" judge.
"Better to remain silent and be thought a fool than to speak out and remove all doubt." - Abraham Lincoln.
But thanks for pointing out that some of my statements sound sexist. I will be careful to word things better so that they don't come out that way. Sometimes my thoughts don't translate to BLOG as well as I would like.
Here you go you rowdy courthouse guys---- the great performance by Michelle Pfeiffer of “Making Whoopee”:
