The bus didn't lose control the driver did!! Excessive speed on a dirt road. This driver has had repeated warning and mishaps. Does Pike county BOE have any standards for the people who drive our children around?
Back in the day we had recorders on the buses that told everything about the bus 24/7 and were held to strict standards. Today I see buses on 19 pull out in front of oncoming traffic, pass or tailgate me with my cruise set @ 60, stop and catch back up a few miles down the road.

okay just to let the ppl know that the drive didnt do it the bus did so if u was not on the bus you need to just wait and see what the law says that way you know for a fast! also she was crying so why would she hurt kids i mean go on.
she loves us kids and would do ahything for us. i know that if it was you you wouldnt wany ppl talking bout like that..
so just stop you talking like you know what happened thanks!
15 year old pregnent girl yes she is ok only one pregnent girl on there. but you know what the nasty comments are not helpin matters. You have half to kids whom set wrote up all the time sayin she meant to do it and the other half that do not get in trouble saying that she did nothing wrong. People they have people to find out exactly what happened. She will keep her job if she did nothin wrong and will lose it if she did . The BOE will not be able to sweep this under the rug as they have with over stuff.
i am a bus driver here in pike/// and if the dirt road had been scraped it would be slick 25 mhp or 55mph just some smart mouth people that live on this web site ( oh lets see lets just wreck the bus today } dum people on this site big noses wow get off the computer
Does is take a accident for the BOE to do something about this bus driver? I know for a fact that there has been at least 10 calls on this driver for speeding. There are more people out here that need a job! FIND SOMEONE ELSE THAT OBEYS THE LAW AND CARES ABOUT THE CHILDREN ON THE BUS. Before something really bad happens.
I can't tell you how many times these drivers break the law. Its not just the same one because it happens all over the county. I have witnessed a driver running a stop sign at about 15 MPH and my brother was on that bus. They are responsible for every life that is on their bus while they are driving it. This driver has since been moved to another route, but I witnessed a deputy stop the bus. The BOE slipped that one under the rug, so there is no telling what else has been. It will be interesting to find out what GSP has to say about it.
The bus can not do any thing on its own so there for the driver lost control and not the bus. From looking at the picture and only the picture it looks like the bus driver was going too fast for conditions and the rear of the bus started to slide (Fish Tail).
The road does not appear to have had fresh stone put down, even if it did that is not a reason for reckless driving. If the bus drivers slow down this kind of stuff won’t happen even on fresh stone. The bus driver should be charged with reckless driving or at the very least too fast for conditions.
well i think they need seat belts on the bus ..we have poor buses in this county hick town... we need better buses over loaded with kids, way under paid bus drivers they need all new buses think about it....70 kids on a bus people give the drivers credit...
I hate this happen but there has been more than once i myself have had run ins with this bus on caldwellbridge and they were driving too fast the dirt rd are not a place for these buses or anyone to drive fast!!!!Just a heads up pike co you should set on caldwellbridge rd when they open it back up this is a dragstrip and sometimes bus driver my prayers r with you and all the family's in this wreck!!!!!!i just ask that you slow the buses down thankyou !!!!
it dosen't matter what kind of shape the the buses are in the speed for aloaded bus is 40mph on any hwy and55mph interstate if it is a 20 or 30 mph zone that is what the bus by law is to do !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!there are lots of hick towns and poor buses

There are some forms being sent home to the parents of the injured students. READ THEM OVER and DO NOT SIGN ANYTHING if they want you to relieve the BOE of ANY liability for this accident! Wait and see what the investigation uncovers and what their actions will be toward this driver. FAIR WARNING! Don't let them make fools out of you! SOMEONE needs to be held accountable for this!!!!!
what was the bus number and who was the driver? I have lived in Pike all my life. I road the bus back when I was in school. We had issues then to. Our bus driver backed up into a car, slammed into the back of another bus, and ran off the road to many times. Not to mention she would pull kids out of class to sweep the bus because they didn't wipe their feet. How ridiculous is that? She no longer drives for Pike but did for a long time. I do see buses who pull out in front of oncoming traffic and drive to fast both on Highways and Dirt roads.
the driver is not all to blame .why cant the kids sit down right in the seats and why cant they get there phones and other elec. taken away so it does not distract the drivers . u dont want to get me started on my child wouldnt do that well everyone needs to wake up
This goes to comment #18- if you can not deal with kids and the things they do on a bus you do not need to be a bus driver. For one it is the bus driver that allows things to go on. For one I thought a boy and girl are not suposed to sit together, well the 14 teen year old that is pregnant, the bus driver loves her and her boyfriend: So they can sit together and make out on the bus and she does nothing. They are the only two that can sit together and not get in trouble. Now god for bid someone bring a drink on the bus- you will get a wrote up. Point is you sign up for a job, you should be able to take all responsiblity that comes with the job!And since you have signed to take care of children! She was the one that needed to be safe, not the kids.
I can tell you why the kids can't sit down in their seats... because they are KIDS!!! If the kids are standing up then the driver needs to stop and wait until they sit. If they are not sitting this is all the more reason for the driver to be more cautious. You people need to understand that there is a difference between a wreck and a accident. 99% are wrecks, because someone is usually at fault. There are very few accidents.

well the girl that is pregnant is 15 so get your facts strait befor you go trying to say stuff you know nothing about and there is a lot of boys and girls sitting together and a camera so if they were doing anything wrong the school would make them stop sitting together so like i said befor get the facts strait ok and if you think the bus driver was at fault them you are an idiot thanks
Well in my opinion, she was going to fast. Especially to be going around a corner. But I guess everything happens for a reason. Im glad no one was hurt.
this goes to #20 you do not have any ideal what any driver goes through .i think she was alotmore easy with all of you than some drivers are i just hope you dont get one that is really strict
Not to be confused with "other bus drivers". Not only did we have recorders "back in the day" but we had the best and safest buses for the money (Blue Birds). Now as far as new buses, look closely at the pic and you will see 06-53 which means its a 2006 model.Buses are normaly replaced every 8 years. But local BOE's are now buying the cheapest tin can they can get away with. That includes Pike, Upson and Lamar. Buying a Blue Bird from Fort Valley that has a CAT engine would support the local economy which pays taxes to the schools. Local Boe's are skimping on equipment and staff while tax payers don't want any increases. Pike buses have traveled on dirt roads since Shelia rode in a horse and wagon.

I BELEIVE THAT THIS COMMENT COME FROM SOME ONE WITH THE LAST NAME THAT STARTS WITH AN S
pike county is crazy. all the kids should have been in their seats instead of being dumb. bus drivers need to wake up & get ready upset by laying down the RULES on the first week of school.
I live on a dirt road yes the school bus drive need to get with the county on how bad the dirt roads are, Think it is bad when they cant even scrape the roads correct they just want to waist the tax payer money with gravel.and need to sent someone to school to learn how to ditch the roads.
I would like to say that if more mom&dads would back the school and the drivers a/b the way the kiids and not all of them act bad i drove for a long time when i had trouble and would call mom an dads they would be there to help and not say my child would never do that thank god these bus driver's have great camra's now i do think that speed was involed and ive been behind alot of buses in this co and other co's they do not drive 40mph they talk on there ph's they listen to the raido while the kids are on there and for the one that said they should'nt have ds ipods of what ever i allowed my kids to have them and when thay did i had no trouble and i will back any of the teachers drivers anyone out there if my kids do something [I AM VERY OLD SCHOOL WHEN IT COMES TO MY KIDS ACTTING UP AT HOME OR ANYWHERE FOR THAT MATTER]WHEN YOU WHERE A KID DID YOU GET YOUR BACK SIDE BUSTED I DID AND RESPECT IS WHAT CAME OUT OF IT 60% OF KIDS NOW DON'T KNOW WHAT RESPECT IS B/C YOU HAVE 10YR OLD WALKING AROUND WITH PH AND GO TO WALMART AND LITEN TO HOW UGLY THESE LIL TEENAGERS ARE TALKING AND WHAT THEY ARE DOING MOST BUS DRIVERS DO LAY DOWN THE LAW ON THE FRIST DAY AND THE MOMS AN DADAS GET MAD AIT SO WHY SHOULD THE KIDS HAVE RESPECT FOR THE DRIVERS
I know a few of the kids that were on that bus, the drivers only distraction that day was her speeding problem, which she has had many complaints on in the past and nothing was ever done about it, it only took someones child getting hurt to finally solve the problem. People can point blame to the kids all day long, bottom line the kids weren't driving and if they were the reason for the wreck not *accident* then she needs to pay even more attention the roads than she was evidently doing. She needed to be fired long ago, everyone knows this, it's over and now maybe the other parents can breathe easy knowing there is one less uncaring buss driver in pike county this morning, I know I slept better last night. No skid marks on the road and no sign of even slowing down, I am thankful the kids were paying attention because it probably saved them a few bumps and scratches.

she may very well love all of you kids, but at the same time she was reckless and not being careful with her driving, trying to get everyone home as fast as she can should not be the priority, all things aside if you had a child would you trust her on that very same bus going 55 mph around a curve on a dirt road, honestly? It's very nice of you to come to her defense but she was in the wrong and has been for a while, now she can collect unemployment and our kids will finally be a little safer
from a concerned parent ,the boe is hiding alot of things there was another accident afew yrs ago that driver was hurt also some kids but that driver kept their job . also the transportation director can go on a field trip and take his family and friends when he should be at his shop doing his job .any time some one has a problem he is nowhere around .the driver of this bus was a great person now it looks like that person will never be able to get another job .doing what they loved doing.
I doubt she wrecked because kids were not in their seat, stop being ignorant and blaming the kids, she was driving and should have been paying attention to the road and her speed, she made a dumb move and kids got hurt, she deserves to be fired and charged !

I am a bus driver and 40mph is the law with kids on bus on route, but field trips, etc, you can drive 55mph. 35mph for dirt roads. First of all, on the kids conduct. Standing or being out of your seat is considered minor by the system. 1st time, a driver has to call parent/2nd time a driver has to send parent note home/3rd time a driver writes up to school, the school slaps the child's hand with ISS(where they get to get out of regular class and are given busy work)/the 4th time the child is finally suspended for 1 day. This is ridiculous. The driver has to keep a student log and record dates and offenses. You either have to pull over and write all this down as it happens or wait til you get home, and take time away from your family to call someone else about their child. I am one though, who follows all these steps, and wrote a child up 5 times plus doing the parent contacts. he was suspended off my bus for 5 days twice, 3 days once, and one day, and the child still rides the bus. We do all this paperwork, pull video tapes showing the kid's conduct, and the system does nothing, and it's all because we took God and the rod out of our schools, and trust me, it's gonna get worse. My grandfather drove a bus for years, and you didn't act that way on his bus. Parents and the schools have forgotten that it is a priveledge to ride the bus, not a state law. some think, that just because they pay taxes, their kid can act any ol way, and still ride the bus. Now, on the speeding, I am not at all defending the drivers speeding(myself included) there should be no excuse, but let me explain something. Some of our routes have almost 70 kids and 30 miles of traveling one way. we can't pick up the smaller children until 6:40/6:45, but we have to be at school by 8:00. you do the math. In the afternoons, the parents don't want their kindergarten child riding a bus for 1hr or longer, and i don't blame them, but there again, you get in your car, drive clear across the county at 40mph, make 70 stops along the way, and don't just stop and start, but stop long enough for a child to come from the back of the bus and safely walk away from bus, and you have personnel at the schools coming on radio wanting to know if they are clear to go home, because they have to stay until all buses are clear. And one other note, Field trips. The schools plan trips to downtown Atlanta, which don't get me wrong, i enjoy them as much as the kids do, but you can't leave school til roll is called, so it's usually 9am before bus pulls out, then you have to leave Alanta by 1pm to get back to school by 2:30 to pick up kids going home. If there is any delay what so ever, child is lost, traffic, break-down, etc, you show me how you are going to get a bus from downtown Atl to Zebulon driving 55mph by 2:30. Transportation dept in any school is red-headed step child. And this breaks my heart to know Children Safety is being overlooked. Pike county is still running "1995" buses on regular routes, but the state inspects them and gives the ok (ha!) We got to one point this year, that we had no spare buses. If another bus would have broke down, there was no spare bus to replace it. In a perfect world, Pike county would have enough money to buy enough buses and hire enough drivers to shorten routes and numbers, and again I'm not defending, espcially, if warnings had been given and were ignored, but this job is not as easy as people think, and i personally know each driver, and trust me pike county, you've got the best drivers in the world, who have your children's safety wrapped around their heart and always will.

ummm for a fact they are not the only ones who sit together!!! there are 4 more people who sit togetherr and the girl is 15!!!! and im her sister it's not right for you to say alll this crap about her! if she wasn't sitting with her bf she would have died and the baby would have and for alll you people that love to get on the computer 24/7 well you need to get a life you have no right to judge someone you don't know AT ALL!!! and well get on!
do you mean the driver that test drunk as when she got off the route in the mornin and was LET GO they did not pull her cdls and now she still drive s kids around on the center field bus. and why is a pregnent teen allowed on a bus or even in school is that o major problem
You betcha. Bill Oliver was the man that drove my horse and wagon. He would simply stop the wagon and PUT YOU OFF if you misbehaved. I never got put off but we argued a few times. If that happened nowadays, they would blame Bill instead of the guilty unruly children.
Anyone who expects you to raise 70 children is out of their minds. Raise your children at home so that they behave on the buses or drive them yourself. If bus drivers are breaking real rules that diminish the safety of a single child, there should be no second chances. If I had to drive 70 kids around, I would jump out the window myself. You be a parent and the bus driver's job will be simpler. As of now, they appear to be record keepers. If a kid was written up 5 times he should not be able to ride on a bus. Get them a horse and wagon. It worked for me.

Unreal tactics by the Pike County BOE
on
04/05/10 at 04:33 AM
The injured children were sent home with Notification Of Injury forms for their parents to fill out. Evidently, they want YOUR insurance information and ONLY plan on picking up the tab for the part that YOUR insurance company does not pay. You folks need to stick together and STAND UP to these tactics! Why in the world would YOU be asked to cover this using YOUR insurance when it was CLEARLY the fault of the driver? They had better hope there are no Law Suites files over this incident! Wreckless Endangerment maybe? This could get ugly, especially if the Atlanta media gets wind of this!
I agree with the shape of pur buses! We have the worst buses in our district or region, along with others things as well. We are a cheap community, afraid to spend a dime even when it is needed.
I know Mrs. Lori~you have driven my daughters and you are the best. The majority of the drivers are great and do the right thing. However, some of the drivers do speed and I think that it should be monitored more closely.
I heard that some kids were seriously injured, that one childs arm was mangled.is this true, someone with information please tell us if they know this child and is he okay....
speed are you kidding they fly and most of them could careless. who do you suggest watch that? we barely have enough cops as it is and most of the time they are eating or flurting with the teenage girls. i agree it needs to be under control but it appears its up to the citizens
hello, some of yall are right it is the bus fought not the drives it just a little thing that happens to EVERYBODY!!!reither they mean to or not.......so everybody stop thinkin whats wrong and think whats right and then everything will be alot easier thank yall and now GOODBYE!!!!!!!
