In a split, 4-3 decision published today, the Georgia Supreme Court has ruled the state may proceed with plans to seek the death penalty for alleged Pike killer Jamie Weis.

You know, it's amazing how noone notices the attacks on Sheila and me before we return the favor.

I try to provide reasonable comments then someone attacks me personally rather than address what I've said, when I return the favor, you see me as the one doing the attacking.

I think if you read Sheila's comments it is the same. This entire part of this thread was started by Pauper saying she was talking to herself. She made no personal attack on him. But he chose to say something negative about her.

If you read most of her posts, they only resort to attacks after she has been attacked. The same goes for mine.

NOTE: I said "most". I have been guilty of saying something first in some cases such as the "tractor incident" when someone was trying to say that the tractor shouldn't have been on the road.

My final point and I'll leave it at that:

I post using my real name for two purposes. 1 - It tells you who I am and that I am not afraid of you knowing it or my opinion.
2 - When I use my name, it forces me to think about what I have to say because it will reflect on me as a person.

If everyone on this blog would use their names instead of being anonymous, there would be fewer attacks on Sheila and me and we wouldn't have to let you know we can do the same.

Does Sheila sometimes make off-color comments? Sure. So do I and I am sure you do as well.

Do I agree with everything Sheila says? Absolutely not we have had discussions where we disagreed in the past. We do agree on many things including everyone should use their own name when posting. I've explained my reasoning in a previous post for the use of one's own name.

I still maintain that if you look at Sheila's history many of her "attacks" were in response to someone attacking her. Just as this one was.

Actually, it is exactly a free speach issue. If we don't allow people to say what they want in this context whose to stop the government or you from stopping the preachers from saying that Jesus is Lord.

Or you from saying that you don't like what someone else has said.

Free speach is a difficult pill to swallow. It means you have to allow other people to express themselves just as you wish to express yourself.

I find it EXTREMELY offensive that someone would want to stop anyone from saying what they think. But I defend your right to say it. Just not your right to do it.

That's my point.

If we stop allowing people with a different opinion or a different way of expressing their opinion, we will soon not be able to express our own. For instance, we won't be able to have prayer at school or at a football game.

I agree. Nearly 100% of the time insults are unnecessary and counter-productive.

If everyone on this BLOG would use their own name, there would be much fewer insults.

I would know your name, know who you are and you would know me. We would realize we are neighbors in a small community not anonymous world wide web (www) posters on a BLOG.

You would think about what you had to say and I would know who said it so that I wouldn't accidently insult you because some other anonymous person insulted me. (using you and me in the 3rd person not specifically talking about you and me)

I understand that you occasionally want to address something that maybe your boss shouldn't hear.

If there were no such thing as the Public Defenders Defense Counsel Fund then Weis would have already had his Constitutional Right fulfilled for a speedy trial and he probably would be sentenced by now as he would have either have retained at his expense his attorney or either went pro-se. Why should taxpayers have to pay for anybody's defense??

My husband, now passed away, loved to read your columns. We had to have all the papers with your articles in them. They brought him so much pleasure. I think that is a fact that irritates many people, Carol. I feel so bad for the family and loved ones of Catherine King. Nowadays it seems that the Constitution is hanging on a pendulum that is being pushed in the wrong direction. It is as if The Law expected the forefathers to foresee these maniacs of today.
