Pike County unemployment remained not only the lowest in the region but held steady at 8.8% during July and June. It was 9.9% in July 2011. Pike and Coweta are the only counties in single-digit joblessness in the 10-county Three Rivers region. [Full story »]

After Pike County employees working in the courthouse aired concerns about dust, noise and debris in their working spaces, inspectors from Occupational Health and Safety Administration visited the courthouse Aug. 29. According to county manager Mike Phillips attempts were made to resolve issues raised by courthouse employees and no violations were filed against Pike. [Full story »]

In Tuesday's runoff election, Marcia Callaway-Ingram won by 23 votes over Loretta Rakestraw for the magistrate judge position. Jim Brooks won by 40 votes over Connie Green for the District 4 board of education seat. One provisional ballot is still out but will not decide the race. For complete results, see full story. Early voting for the runoff election will be held in the courthouse lobby Wednesday, Aug. 15 and Thursday, Aug. 16. The final day of early voting will be held Friday, Aug. 17 in the commissioners meeting room in the courthouse annex since power will be off at the courthouse during construction. [Full story »]
