On Super Tuesday, 10 states held primary elections, including Georgia. Local results started rolling in shortly after 7 p.m. when the polls closed and were all calculated before 9 p.m. In Georgia's 2012 primary election, around 31% of Pike County's registered voters cast their vote.
With a total of 3,182 votes cast in Pike County, Gingrich received an overwhelming majority of the votes with 1,739 or around 55% of all votes. Rick Santorum received a total of 583 votes, Mitt Romney received a total of 471 votes, Ron Paul received a total of 198, Obama received a total of 187 votes, Rick Perry received 5 votes, Michele Bachmann received 4 votes, Jon Huntsman received 3 votes, Gary Johnson received 2 votes and Buddy Roemer received 0 votes.
According to the Associated Press, 47.2% of Republican voters chose Gingrich over the other eight Republican candidates (with only 10% of precincts reporting).
