Members of the Pike County Touchdown Club are trying to raise $1,000 before March to sod a field at the middle school. The group has already raised $5,000 for the project to provide a practice field for middle school football players and a usable field for physical education classes and other athletic teams. The middle school Lady Pirates played for a spot in the middle school championship Friday, Feb. 5, against the Lamar County Lady Trojans. Baseball and softball registration is underway in Pike. The Pike County Baseball Association will register children ages 3 to 15 at the old middle school from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. Any child who has not previously played in the league should bring a copy of his or her birth certificate. Around 400 kids played baseball in Pike last year and more than 200 played softball. The 2009 Pike County Pirates football team was honored last Thursday night at Christ Chapel Community Church. The first award presented was for the Highest GPA and Junior Bowen Flowers took the award with a 4.0 average.
Most Valuable Player for offense was awarded to Jasvion Wilson. Wilson was involved in many game-winning touchdown receptions. The Defensive MVP award went to Clint Moser. Moser led the defense in many categories throughout the season. [Full story »]
