Last Friday the Pirates hosted the Spalding Jaguars for a preseason scrimmage. The stands were packed with fans even though the weather was hot and steamy. The Pirates will open the regular season Aug. 26 as they travel to Peachtree City to take on the Chiefs of McIntosh. Game time is 7:30 p.m. [Full story »]

The 7/8 Pike County All Star team placed second in the state tournament and will represent Georgia in the Dixie Youth World Series in Florence, S.C., this week. The state’s double elimination tournament began with 10 teams and ended with Pike County Black and Duluth in the championship game. [Full story »]

Football season is on its way to Pike County. This year the Pike County recreation complex will host a new football program called the Southern Recreation Football Conference. Middle school cheerleaders attended Cheer Camp at Columbus State University June 16-18. During camp, the team learned several cheers and dance routines and practiced them to compete in the camp competition. The PCMS team took home the first place trophy in every category: home pompom routine, extreme dance routine and camp cheer. [Full story »]

The Lady Pirates basketball teams coached young players during a youth basketball camp the week of June 6 at the middle school. More than 30 girls worked with high school and middle school coaches, along with the varsity and junior varsity players, to learn fundamental basketball skills, do drills, take part in competitions and play in scrimmages. The Pike County archery team came home with team and individual honors from the State 4-H archery outdoor match held May 14 at Rock Eagle 4-H Center in Eatonton. Pike had three cloverleaf compound teams, two cloverleaf recurve individuals, two junior compound teams, one junior recurve team, one senior compound team and one senior recurve individual. The teams consists of three to four archers and all archers compete individually. [Full story »]

Chris Long homers for Pike, tying the game at 1-1 after 1.5 innings.

Buford leads 2-1 after 5.5 innings. Back-to-back great plays on foul balls by Nate Ferrell with the bases loaded.

Buford gets 2-run homer to lead 4-1 with no outs in bottom of 6th. Buford scores on passesd ball to take 5-1 lead after six innings. Pike down to it's last at bat.
