On Jan. 15, 1889, the first issue of the Pike County Journal – Zebulon’s first organ of enlightenment and edification – rolled off the press and into the hands of an awaiting public. Rev. Parry Lee was the editor. The typography and make-up judged from modern standards were inexcusably poor, the contents even worse, but a start had been made – the Journal was on its way.
