When I was young, my parents had a classic recording of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. It was generally played for us on Christmas Eve.

If the narration of Orson Wells and the voice of Lionel Barrymore as Ebenezer Scrooge did not pin us to the bed while ‘Santa’ arranged the presents under the tree, the sound of Marley’s ghost dragging his chains and cash boxes would. [Full story »]

Why do we the citizens who put the people in the positions of legal authority – the very ones who decide which cases should be brought before the grand jury – accept it when cases that should be presented are not, for whatever reasons? The one that hurts the most – and presents the worst picture of our legal system – is the Donna Marie Ogletree Johnson murder case.

We know Donna Johnson was killed in a manner that was both violent and diabolical. We know there was enough evidence to make an arrest. We also know there was – and is – sufficient evidence to present the case to the grand jury. [Full story »]

The Pike County courthouse is one of three Pike edifices on the National Historic Register. It’s in downtown Zebulon, the county seat. The courthouse square is a focal point and its park like setting is an invaluable asset to the community. The courthouse was built in 1895. [Full story »]

He was a precious baby. Of course, all parents think that about their newborn children. So, since I was his daddy and he was my son, it was ok for me to think that.

He came early. And he was small, the result of a heart condition I didn’t know about until the day he was born. But, that didn’t matter. To me, he was perfect, and precious, and sweet, and I would, as the old saying goes, “move Heaven and Earth,” to protect him, and to provide for him, and to make him better. [Full story »]

There’s substantial entomological evidence in the Donna Marie Ogletree Johnson murder case that leads one to at least consider the fact she wasn’t killed by person or persons unknown. It’s the same information that contradicts statements and alibis of several people questioned during the original investigation in the weeks and months after the murder and put the previous assumptions that Donna Johnson was killed between 2-4 p.m. on July 16 into the “doubtful” category.
