Back in the 1960s I found a way to earn some money on my own. Walking with my big Radio-Flyer wagon I’d pick up soft drink bottles along roads of my small hometown of Brooks in south Fayette County.
The ditches and fence lines would become home to unwanted soft drink bottles. Just behind the road signs was another good place to find bottles as well. The bottle wielding Nazis of that era would use the signs as a target for their pleasure. I liked it when they missed; it was money for me.
