Miss America, a 2-year-old bald eagle, took to the skies on a rainy Saturday morning at the Pines Golf Course in Pike. The young bird of prey was found in Laurens County by deer hunters who spotted the young eagle lying in the bushes on her back with her feet drawn up to her chest. Steve Hicks of Bubba & Friends Inc. said it appears she got into some type of toxic substance that temporarily paralyzed her.

3 large Idaho potatoes
1/4 cup butter
1 cup cottage cheese
1/2 onion, diced
salt and pepper
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
Scrub the potatoes, slice them and put in a pot of boiling water. Boil the potatoes until tender, then drain and mash them with 2 tablespoons of the butter. Add the cottage cheese, onion, and salt and pepper to taste. Stir the mixture gently and then put in a greased casserole dish. Dot the remaining 2 tablespoons of butter and sprinkle with paprika. A memorial service is scheduled at 4 p.m. today, Thursday, for the Pike County man who died from a house fire earlier this week.
The memorial service for 51-year-old Kenneth Newman will be held at the chapel at Conner-Westbury Funeral Home in Griffin. Friends are invited to visit the grieving family following the memorial service.
