The Pike County schools Christmas concert was canceled Dec. 3 as rain caused the old middle school auditorium to leak. According to superintendent Dr. Mike Duncan, the auditorium is past due for repair. Heavy rains and leaking this year led to the decision to close the auditorium until the roof can be fixed.

The Pike County Development Authority discussed proposed gas pipeline routes at the Thursday, Dec. 3 meeting. Chief Warrant Officer II Michael Lee returned back to the states after an 11 month deployment to Iraq as an Apache helicopter pilot. He flew 98 missions during his deployment and proudly flew the Pike County High School flag on every mission.

This year, the Georgia Legislature dedicated Highway 18 in Pike County to Trooper Tony Lumley in honor of his service. Lumley, 36, was an officer from Pike who lost his life during a vehicle pursuit on Highway 16 in Spalding County.
