One person was arrested after a probe into the sale of alcoholic beverages to minors at The Rock Store.

“Deputies have received numerous complaints of minors purchasing alcohol at this location,” said Pike sheriff Jimmy Thomas.

Amyn Karim, 24, was booked Aug. 18. for selling alcoholic beverages to minors. He is out of jail on a $5,000 bond.

According to the U.S. Department of Justice, women committed only 11.2% of all the murders between 1976 and 2005.

State, local and insurance investigators are scrutinizing the blaze that destroyed the Concord area home of murder victim Jimmie “Buzz” Burousas Jr. and his wife and accused killer Teresa Mang-ham Burousas.

State investigators call it arson.

Larry Houston Hatchett, 38, of Williamson has been charged with aggravated assault after allegedly chasing down and attacking a man who allegedly stole his motorcycle, according to sheriff's deputies in Pike and Meriwether counties.

Hatchett is well known in Pike County and ran unsuccessfully for the district one post on the county commission in 2006. [Full story »]

Accused murderer Jamie Weis is challenging the heart of the state's criminal case against him in a two-day court hearing starting Wednesday at the Pike County Courthouse.

Weis is seeking to suppress evidence, challenging the array of the grand jury that indicted him as not being a representative sample of Pike's population, and claiming his statements to police were not voluntary. Judge Johnnie Caldwell Jr. will rule on those issues and others. [Full story »]

Pike County deputies and other authorities are investigating an apparent home invasion at 560 Caldwell Bridge Rd. near Concord July 1 in which a man was reportedly shot to death and his wife savagely beaten.

Pike County coroner Terrell Moody identified the victim as 60-year-old Jimmie (Buzz) Burousas Jr., son of former Lamar County chief magistrate Jimmie Burousas Sr.

Barnesville police investigators have issued a warning to local merchants and citizens to be on the lookout for counterfeit $100 bills in circulation here.
