Junior Players say goodbye to two, look for new members

The Pike County Art Council’s Junior Players recently said goodbye to two senior members who have been with the group since it was founded four years ago. The group is holding auditions for new members to join for this season with a musical theme of “Hello, Goodbye.” Jeremy Strader and Lauren Harrell both graduated from high school this year. Young Eagles take first flights

Members of the Experimental Aircraft Association Chapter 468 took more than 50 Young Eagles for a flight June 15. EAA 468’s Young Eagles coordinator Chuck Lindsey planned the rally to give Young Eagles rides to Civil Air Patrol volunteers who help the club with everything from car parking to flight line safety during events at Candler Field Museum in Williamson and elsewhere. Fred Jones, a descendent of two local Civil War veterans, will host a presentation on two of his great-great grandfathers, Pvt. Lewis Jefferson Jones and Pvt. Martin Luther Bennett, both of whom fought for the Confederate States of America. The memorial service will be held Tuesday, July 2, at 6:30 p.m. at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Molena with a supper starting there at 5:45 p.m. [Full story »]

Pack 107 is asking that cases of water and Gatorade as well as diapers, wipes and hygiene items be dropped off at A Novel Experience on the courthouse square or Zebulon First Baptist Church. The Pike County courthouse was recently landscaped with a variety of more than 300 perennial plants thanks to a Nelson Memorial Garden Club Inc. grant of around $28,000. The foundation was established in honor of a Revolutionary War Patriot named Thomas “Century” Nelson by his descendent Thaddeus Nelson Morris. [Full story »]
