Longtime Pike County resident Jerry Spinks will speak on the mechanical operations of antique mills, local grist mills and the cultural importance of the mills and millers at the Thursday, March 21 meeting. Members of the Crepe Myrtle Garden Club partnered with an instructor and students from Southern Crescent Technical College to give gardens in downtown Zebulon a fresh look. “We had to take it off the menu for a few months due to changes in our Nutrition Guidelines provided by the state,” said school nutrition assistant director Brian Davison. “The new pizza is lower in sodium and fat.” [Full story »]

In 2011, Scarlett Mullis, Abbi Hood and Ashleighanna Johnson had a vision that children with special needs deserve the same opportunities as every other child. They partnered with the Pike County Navigator Team and through the support of the team and their parents, in 2012 they hosted the first ever special needs fashion show in Pike County, “Paris in Pike.” That first show had about 100 people attending.
