If spring cleaning in your yard has yielded piles of sticks and brush, be sure to call for a burn permit before the end of April. Starting May 1, a burn ban is implemented for 54 Georgia counties including Pike and surrounding counties. The Georgia Environmental Protection Division's Open Burning Ban lasts until Sept. 30 and prohibits the burning of yard debris in addition to the year-round state ban on burning household garbage. Companion Animal Rescue and Education in Molena recently joined other animal welfare organizations in the area that list their homeless pets on Petfinder.com, the oldest and largest database of adoptable animals on the Internet.
