The Mountain Gap Church established the camp meetings in 1900 and have continued the tradition each year since, with this year marking the 114th session at an outdoor tabernacle in Meansville. Matthew Peterson was introduced to art at an early age. At age 9, he started to excel in sketching and drawing. What makes Peterson such a unique artist is he is color blind. The sophomore at Pike County High School was introduced to the paintbrush at age 12 and has never looked back. [Full story »]

Cub Scouts collect items for tornado victims

Cub Scout Pack 107 members will help collect items to send to those affected by the tornado that destroyed Moore, Oklahoma. Pack 107 is asking that cases of water and Gatorade as well as diapers, wipes and hygiene items be dropped off at A Novel Experience on the courthouse square or Zebulon First Baptist Church. Landscaping complete at courthouse

The Pike County courthouse was recently landscaped with a variety of more than 300 perennial plants thanks to a Nelson Memorial Garden Club Inc. grant of around $28,000. The foundation was established in honor of a Revolutionary War Patriot named Thomas “Century” Nelson by his descendent Thaddeus Nelson Morris. [Full story »]
