As runners lined up at 7:53 a.m. just off the main lot of Summers Field in Barnesville, Georgia not a single female was visible in the first two lines of runners. By the first turn that would change as Pike County High School cross country and track runner Allison Mangham of Molena, GA would emerge to take the lead.
Mangham wasn't sure what to expect coming into the race as she had not entered the Buggython before and had no evident teammates around her.
