Former Pike countian, acclaimed musician and Athens music scene veteran Vic Chesnutt, who died Christmas Day there, will be buried here at private services.

Chesnutt recorded and collaborated with groups such as REM and Widespread Panic. He recorded 15 albums of his own music. His obituary made the New York Times. [Full story »]

Governor Sonny Perdue announced Monday that Thomaston in Upson County will be home to a new biorefinery demonstration plant, the result of a partnership between Diamond Alternative Energy, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Valero Energy Corporation, and American Process, Inc. (API). The opening of the new facility, expected around the first quarter of 2010, represents the creation of 25-30 jobs in Thomaston and Atlanta. [Full story »]

A man was struck by a hit and run driver at 597 Piedmont Road Wednesday night at approximately 7:50 p.m.

Sheriff's deputies are searching for the assailant who is driving a 1987-1991 Ford F-150. The vehicle is thought to be a light color with primer spots. The truck will show damage on the passenger side from the door to the taillight. It will, however, be missing the taillight as it was damaged in the wreck and left on scene. There may be some damage to the undercarriage too evidenced by the accident scene. (this is a change from the original lookout [Full story »]
