Cuts proposed by the University System of Georgia would completely kill Georgia's venerable 4-H program.

The proposal includes elimination of all Georgia 4-H programs, 116 immediate layoffs which includes 94 County 4-H Agents, closing all five of the 4-H camping facilities including Rock Eagle, closing half of the county extension offices eliminating another 169 positions, and a host of other program eliminations and facility closures. Leeland Mark Braley's death has been confirmed as a suicide. GBI spokesman John Bankhead said autopsy results finalized last week indicted Braley died of cervical suspension consistent with suicide by hanging.

However, reports alleging Braley was murdered continue to turn up. [Full story »]

The snow ended overnight but not before dumping three to five inches in Pike and surrounding counties.

Roads that froze overnight Friday leading to multiple minor accidents were thawing fast Saturday morning. Pike sheriff Jimmy Thomas reported no major incidents here.

Accused killer Teresa Mangham Burousas made an appearance in Pike County superior court Tuesday.

Burousas was scheduled to be arraigned but mumbled she had no plea when questioned by Judge Christopher Edwards. The judge then entered directed pleas of not guilty for her on counts of malice murder, felony murder, aggravated assault and possession of a firearm during commission of a felony. [Full story »]
