Ephesians 5:18-20 says, “... be filled with the Spirit, addressing one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody to the Lord with your heart, giving thanks always and for everything to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ.”
If we believe our history books, the Pilgrims rejoiced and gave thanks as this verse instructs. I am sure the Pilgrims were happy they survived the first year in their new land regardless of if they celebrated the way we are told or not. I wonder if we are missing the true meaning and intent of giving thanks. Our nation is one of overindulgence, excess to the extreme, lust and greed. We are not satisfied with what we have and if we are, it is only until the next shiny object attracts our attention.
