Pike County’s agribusiness authority started an innovative new market for residents and local farmers. Wednesday Market allows consumers to order products from farmers via their website at WednesdayMarket.locallygrown.net so farmers will know exactly how much produce to harvest. Consumers can choose from a variety of items and place their order by Monday at 10 p.m. so farmers can harvest the items for the Wednesday Market. [Full story »]

More than 300 Pike County citizens stopped by the courthouse to vote early by noon Friday, March 4. The last day for to vote early on the SPLOST issue is March 11 and Election Day is March 15. The Pike County commissioners finalized a $95,000 budget cut and the authorities impacted have struggled to deal with the cuts. The Industrial Development Authority budget was cut $19,023 and as a result dissolved a longstanding services agreement between the IDA and Chamber of Commerce. Chamber president Karen Brown was laid off with her last day being Feb. 25. [Full story »]

Pike County commissioners voted to combine the magistrate and probate courts by a 3-2 vote at the Feb. 22 meeting after they were presented with information detailing 23 counties in Georgia with combined courts. The combination is projected to save Pike around $70,000 a year and must be approved by a resolution from the Georgia legislature. [Full story »]
