Parties involved in a lawsuit over school board redistricting will hold an open meeting Thursday, Oct. 18 at 7 p.m. at Old Mount Calvary Outreach Center to discuss the case. Four Pike County residents joined together to file a lawsuit Oct. 4 in Pike County Superior Court to contest school board district elections that took place July 31 and Aug. 21. [Full story »]

Around 30 residents attended a Saturday, Oct. 6 workshop on animal control and many issues and suggestions were raised. The issue was briefly discussed again at the Wednesday, Oct. 10 commission meeting. Commissioners voted unanimously to designate county manager Mike Phillips to gather information, research facts on starting an animal control facility and update them on animal control at every meeting. She will have double mastectomy surgery just four days before the Saturday, Oct. 20 event but encouraged her husband and family friend ‘Wrangler’ Jim Scott to hold the event without her. The school auditorium in Pike County has been closed for more than a year now. If voters approve the Education Special Purpose Local Option Sales Tax on the November ballot a renovated auditorium could be open for the 2013-14 school year. [Full story »]
