BOE transfers old Adams St. school to DDA

The Pike County board of education approved a resolution to allow the chairman and superintendent to execute the deed to the Adams Street school building at the Jan. 12 meeting. The board then transferred ownership of the property to the Downtown Development Authority.

This is an historical building soon to be declared by the DDA. A grant will be found to partially pay for restoration but matching funds are required, therefore taxpayers (one way or another) will be asked to provide those funds. $70,000 is peanuts compared to a restoration. Once completed it can house the Arts Council or the Zebulon Garden Club. Did I mention the auditorium has good acoustics, the roof falling in is a minor problem. Cris Curry will be out to fleece you suckers soon.

No this is duncanwatcher. Can't go public but when are the citizens and taxpayers of Pike County going to stand up and take their largest employer and most important business back from a Fayette County Elitist. Of Course, I am referring to the Pike County School System. It is a crying shame that our school system is not good enough for Duncan’s children to attend school because we don’t have a Lacrosse Team. It is a shame that we are not good enough for his wife to teach here in Pike County. Wake up and smell the coffee! Everything our highest paid employee (the superintendent) does is in Fayette County from going to church to buying groceries yet we wonder why our SPLOST does not generate money. Wake up people. Go vote and put some new blood on the board that will stand up to the superintendent and run him out. We need a superintendent that will at least have enough pride to truly be a part of the community and will have enough confidence in our schools to send his/her children to them.

No fulltime paid firefighter. No money yet. I heard Pike County Board of Commissioners. Voted 4-0. Mid georgia ambulance, budget 2010 and fire fees. Fulltime paid paramedic and emt with all the firehouse manned 24/7.

Why did the school board want to sell this building to the county for 169 thousand, and then just give it to the DDA?

Talk about abuse of tax dollars.
